Hallucination?

Hallucination?

This started yesterday, i saw my classmate walking down the stairs and i recognized his face as my other classmate. I clearly saw him as my other classmate, it was so clear, but then i blinked, it wasn't him, it's just my other classmate who doesn't even resemble the face of the person i thought he was. Is this a form of hallucination ? I'm worried because this is not the only scenario that i've experienced yesterday as well as today. And i get enough sleep too so I can't understand why this is happening to me?.

Hi @Irredeemabl

I'm Margot, welcome to the community 🌻

That experience would have felt quite scary, particularly if you've noticed a few other things that aren't quite right. We all have unusual perceptual experinces like that from time to time e.g. we think or phone is ringing but it's not or we think we see somebody we know and then we realise it wasn't them. As you mentioned, sleep can influence our perceptions too. However, if you're noticing a persistent pattern of unusual perceptual experiences, it's worth trusting your instincts and having a chat with a GP or a counsellor about how you're feeling. For some people who experience perceptual changes, it can form part of a range of other expereinces that can lead to psychosis. This may not be true for you, but it could be worth having a read of the link if you're interested. If you'd like to chat with a counsellor more immediately, you can contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.

Take good care of yourself @Irredeemabl. Look forward to seeing you around the forums 🐼
