Hi @Angels333

I'm sorry to hear you've had a bad day. Would sharing it on here help?

Re: still confused

After 8 months of therapy and medications today I feel like I'm right back at square 1.

My psychiatrist wants to see me once per week and maybe more if necessary. Every time I walk in his office or the psychologist's office I panic.

Re: still confused

Hugs if ok @Angels333 - I guess the positive is that they are willing to support you and you know that things have been better in between so you can get back there again.
What makes you panic about seeing them if ok to ask?

Re: still confused

Thanks @Former-Member I don't know why, but my emotions become so overwhelming. When I have relaxed before I have had nasty flashbacks in the office. I feel like completely losing the plot an trashing his office, like being completely crazy

Re: still confused

Yeah, I have found that too, the flashbacks are intense when I've been working on things or I've been terrified of saying 'too much' at times, though usually I probably just needed to let it out anyways but used to get so nervous of going. Maybe you need to release something which is why you feel like you want to trash his office. Does he have cushions? Maybe just squish one of those 🙂 or let him know you feel that he'll probably have some ideas about why/how to manage it.
Here listening

@Angels333

It sounds you like have journey ahead of you to work through things, but take it one step at a time. Sometimes letting a little out at a time is helpful. I hope your therapists are good and committed to your welfare.

I have done a range of therapies which have enabled more full bodied expression than is currently fashionable in many counsellors' rooms. I doubt I would have survived at all if I did not have access to padded rooms in primal and the ability to freely and constructively express anger or go into foetal position as needed.

You obviously realise that it would be a projection of your issues onto your health professionals if you did release anger in the way you describe, otherwise you wouldnt have posted the way you did.

I believe the current approach to managing anger is not good enough, but unfortunately that is the limits of our legal and health systems at present.

@Former-Member 's suggestion re cushion is a good one.

For me, I tended to use a cushion to cover my stomach and chest area throughout many many seated counselling sessions, more in a self protective manner, of providing a barrier between me and counsellor, but I already worked a lot on my own anger earlier on in primal and gestalt therapy, during early 80s.

I have heard therapists complain about the degree of a client's anger, and I am getting sick of it. it is the therapists JOB or at least the MH field's job to provide a range of services. They are getting paid good money and need to develop better strategies to deal with it.

I once felt immense sympathy and expressed concern to a psychiatrist (circa 1987) who had had his bins destroyed by an ex patient ... he was seeing people in his home ... that was when I was more naive, this shrink could be a little bull headed at times and suffered from his own delusions of grandeur, but that is hindsight, at the time, I just submitted and submitted ...

You do have to be careful .... Try and find constructive ways on your own to discharge your anger . .. eg., exercise, gardening, listening to music that helps you cathart.

Its important you dont feel so backed into a corner that you threaten to trash their office .. I would see that as a case of you running out of options ... but they might not be so generous.

As the MH field seems overwhelmed by people and issues .. I hope they are constantly on the look out for ways to improve their services and put taxpayers money to effective use.

Good Luck @Angels333

Re: still confused

Thank you everyone for the advice and time taken to reply. I tuned out and watched a tv show with my son tonight. I still feel awful I fear my mini meltdown might make things a little bit harder for the next few weeks.

Re: still confused

Glad you were able to distract yourself spending timewith your son. Appleblossom is a fountain of wisdom and knowledge. I also agree with @NikNik saying that recovery isnt smooth, we go up and down, life is like that for everyone i guess. You wil make it through this though, and we're all here for you,

Re: still confused

Hi, so it seems my psychologist has acted unethically and now my Psychiatrist has decided to do psychotherapy weekly with me. The psychologist said that it was a 'luxury' to see the psychiatrist so frequently. Now I feel like I'm having to start over again. I'm in a messy place and currently doing more harm than good.
