Anger turned inward or outward?

Anger turned inward or outward?

I am really distressed to hear about We Li 's court case and the death of his mother Emma Mae Tan.

It is such a horrifying situation. As a daughter who is now disabled because of a similar approach from my mother ... though my mother was never as controlling as this latest generation of tiger mums are.

I have heard about and seen these situations a few times.

It is important that we dont sweep everything into the cultural relativism basket. Sometimes it works out ... he was thinking about suicide and then committed murder. A tragedy for the family and for musical excellence.

Please, music is supposed to be a heart felt expression of the soul.

Hi @Appleblossom

I'm sorry that this story has triggered that identity with your mum for you. There are so many pressures in life... we need to get back to letting kids enjoy being kids and not forcing them down a specfic path of our own choosing...

hugs for you,

lj

Thanks @Former-Member

As teachers we know it is important. It was one of the reasons I felt confused about discipline and knowledge and learning.

It is so weird my son eventually chose music. I have been ambivalent about it but in the end I took his choice seriously, and am ok with Though I feel we are both walking paths re destiny and related to family history rather than actually fully and freely choosing.

My brother cut the strings on mother's piano. it was his first violent act of many and the last was to himself.

It is sad and not clear cut with this murder case as the student tried hard to escape justice. But I doubt it was cold blooded as some of the cations suggest. problem with piano is that we are trained to have enormous anount of self control.

It is another reason why I dont feel motivated to build a big studio any more .. as I had 2 students who suffered from excess control re mother's practise requirements, not mine or the kids. In the end I could not celebrate their exam "success" and glad when they stopped.

I am ok and not badly triggered lj, but it is related to some other posts about anger and SH. Have to turn computer off.

Good night. I hope tomorrow works out well for you and lil ones.

Hi. Tks. I'm ok. I have decided to move overseas again in a couple of years as I find the Australian culture doesn't suit me very well. All is good with me. How are you?

I am not too bad. Thanks for asking. @Terry We had smashed banana on toast for breakfast, yum, made son up a nice lunch but he is dragging his feet on getting out the door .. is disappointed in the quality of his music course ... he has been working like a dog though so I will support him whatever .. so long as he makes reasonable decisions.

I found my sense of being akin to humanity whilst travelling, so I can understand that feeling. Sometimes it is hard being an expatriate. You know your own needs best and what might work for you.

Re: Anger turned inward or outward?

@Appleblossom nice. support him and love him whatever he does, not that you have to 'support' his bad decisions. Everyone makes bad decisions. If he is old enough to study overseas consider sending him away from this hideous stupid culture!

I am well and happy, and very blessed. Lovely day here today x 🙂

Re: Anger turned inward or outward?

My daughter spent one year studying in a little town on Lake Superior (high school) and one year studying in Lithuania (uni). Both were really good for her. My son isnt interested in travelling much ... just had a month in The States visiting family ... he is more of a home bod.

Dont stop posting @Terry .. you have a lot to offer ... and I hope a robust self esteem ... draw strength from whatever source works for you .. and let others find their own style.

I think it is quite odd .. last generation the church was good ... this generation its got a bad rep ... change seems constant though ...

cheers Apple

Re: Anger turned inward or outward?

@Appleblossom nice. yes, o/s broadens the mind.

i don't think the churches overall have a 'bad rep' - dunno, maybe. certainly there's been a bit of a 'shake-down' in recent years and 'fall-out'.

anyway, got to get to my book today. i feel like i really offended lisajane - i'm sure i did. as i'm changing i'm trying to shed anti-social habits. x 🙂 😞

I see your enthusiasm for reaching out as pro social ... @Terry but the churchy style does not seem to suit a few of the forumites .. maybe try and match your greeting with what you know about the person ... it is different strokes for different folks.

Mostly I try and adapt and say an Indonesian greeting to the Indonesians at church ...

Thouh a few times I came out with a big "G'day" during the sign of peace ... for me it was humorous and with a a sense of positive regard for the good things of Aussie culture .. but some thought it inappropriate ... you cant please all the people all the time ...

I gotta go to .. not doing much writing at moment but hope to soon.
