Needing some advice

Needing some advice

Hi I'm just after some advice for what people do when they feel they are questioning everything in their life.

I have everything I need job, close friends and Family I can call yet I feel alone and empty.

Today I spent the morning with friend and her youngest yet when i got home I felt frustrated but at nothing in particular. I felt exhausted and thought a rest may help however still feel empty. I keep thinking all I want to sleep but as i rest keep thinking what am I even supposed to b doing and why do I feel like this.

Hi @Jessten, you seem very lost at the moment. I’m not sure if that’s actually the case but I just got a sense of feeling lost as I read your words.

I wonder if it’s possible that maybe you feel your life lacks purpose or meaning. I mean, as wonderful as having a job, family and friends is, I think we can still feel like we don’t really have a purpose. Maybe that’s a piece of the puzzle. I don’t know for sure though.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and offer a little support and caring 😊

Hi pepperpot

Yeah thats pretty much on point. I often find myself wondering what exactly the purpose of me being here is. I know I overthink everything but I feel as though I can't talk to anyone as noone understands and how can they if I don't even know.

I feel as though I bottle everything up as everyone is judging my every move and just don't know how to not feel as though I'm going crazy when I feel like this.

Hi @Jessten and welcome

I can see how not being able to talk to anyone might leave you feeling alone even though you have friends and family. I find it uncomfortable to think that people are judging me and it can be easy to get caught up in trying to work out what they are thinking or feeling. It can lead me to a bit of a spiral of over thinking and questioning also. I try to remind myself that I don't know what others are thinking, especially if it is unspoken (or I can't ask/they can't tell me). Sometimes it's a bit hard to not get stuck in trying to work it out though.

I read yours and @Pepperpot's comments about meaning and purpose and they reminded me a little of this:

I have it stuck somewhere special as it kind of gives me a little direction in a way. It relates a lot to employment so it may not be relevant (it's less relevant to me now than when I first came across it), but it has given me some food for thought as it reminds me that there's quite a lot to the idea of 'purpose' and that I can find it by looking at a few areas, like what I enjoy doing and what I am good at.

Do you have any interests/ hobbies or things that you feel passionate about or enjoy doing? Maybe they're places to find a sense of meaning or purpose.

Nice to 'meet' you and I hope you find the forum helpful.

@Jessten. I'm wondering whether you see a psychologist? They can be a big help in helping sort out what you are really feeling, what it is you feel may be missing from your life.

Re: Needing some advice

@Jessten. I totally understand not knowing what you were thinking and how frustrating that question can be.

Have you told your psychologist that you just don't know what you are thinking? How did they respond?

If you find that you are getting nowhere with this psychologist, ask your gp for a referral to a different one. Sometimes it's a case that the psychologist and I are not a good fit. But that a different one will understand what you mean and will be able to help you.

Don't give up on seeking help. All the best.
