Frustrated

Frustrated

I went into hospital back at the end of November. I was in for four weeks and had ECT for my depression. I lost my job in August after returning from an 18mth absence. I feel good now and ready to work.

I applied for a job and interview . I was required to tell them that I had had depression and had a condition on my nursing registration that I am to be supervised by another nurse and it can be done remotely.eg by the manager of the unit. I didn't get the job because they were concerned that when staffing numbers were low I wouldn't cope.

I feel that because I have to reveal this information to prospective employers that I will face this sort of discrimination every time making my employment prospects nil. I have get a full time job before because that's when the money runs out.

Re: Frustrated

@JRFoxie, so sorry to hear what you've been going through. I have to say I felt a bit gutted reading that, as it must be so incredibly deflating for you, having been through everything you've been through, to find yourself facing a setback like this now that you're mentally better and ready to take on some fresh challenges. It's certainly seems quite unfair to have your experiences of depression held against you in professional life. Have you encountered this sort of thing before? Are you going to have the means to get through until the money runs out? How long will it be until that happens?

Re: Frustrated

I'll get by until May when the money runs out.

Re: Frustrated

That is do unfair @JRFoxie, don't give up hope, though I can understand how hard that would be. I'm also returning to work soon and though I think I'm ready I really don't want my employer to know about my history but my psychiatrist wants to speak with my boss first if I even get his permission to work.. The discrimination is awful.
Good luck,
Lj
