Trigger without trauma??

Trigger without trauma??

So, I've been having a really tough time of it lately.

I'm not sure I want to go into it, but something has been really upsetting me, taking over my whole life and turning it upside down. I've been paralysed with fear 12 hours a day and calling the cops thinking I'm about to be attacked. And my therapist says it's my 'trigger'.

But I don't get it. What could possibly be triggering this?!?!?!? I don't have any antecedent event to cause something like this. I just don't understand. I don't have any major trauma to make this happen to me.

Why is this happening to me?

@Phoenix_Rising, @CheerBear, @Teej, @Appleblossom, @Faith-and-Hope and anyone else.... I'm so tired I can't remember anyone's names.

Hi @Former-Member

How are you feeling now? Hope the fear has lifted a little. I’m sorry I can’t help as I don’t know what you and your therapist have discussed, but I am here. I know how frightening life can be (even when everyone thinks everything is safe) and I can understand your confusion.

Take care.

Re: Trigger without trauma??

@Former-Member Hello.

I wanted to let you know, from things my therapists have needed to manage with my situation/s, is that the traumatic event does not have to been something done to you personally. What I'll call the traumatic situation can be something you were witness to, or heard happening, or had relayed to you by someone else, or perhaps saw on the news. Especially if there was a link of some kind for you to whatever the situation was.

Also, the reaction a person has might not come from a recognisable trauma, but from an accumulation of seemingly small and seemingly insignificant events that have finally combined to become too weighty to keep silent.

Of course I have no idea of your situation, and that is perfectly fine, these things are private. I just wanted to share that with you in case it in some way helps you to feel more secure in your own sense of self.

Your avatar always reminds me one of those wood models from years ago - it makes me smile as it is a happy memory for me.

Feeling the need to call the police is intense. Feeling vulnerable is core human state. Vulnerability is not necessarily due to a particular trauma. Have not seen you on the forum for a while. I wondered how you were going @Former-Member. Hope that experience settles.
