Psychologist sessions missed due to easter

Psychologist sessions missed due to easter

Hey I'm a brand newby to this site, just wondering if anyone has any advice.

I have BPD as well as recovering from (mild) anorexia, last year I did a 6month DBT course with one group session and one psychologist session a week and skills calls where I could contact my psychologist if needed to assist with learning the skills.

Recently work has been quite difficult and my boss decided to change the role of my job drastically after I've been in the role I'm in for about 8 years I think in aid of trying to make things easier for me. But it' thrown me for quite a spin. The new role is starting tomorrow.

WHICH brings me to my stress today; for the past 10 to 12 months I've been seeing my psychologist weekly with some times she' been unavailable the most noteworthy over Christmas where I didn' see her for 4 weeks and pretty much all the work I had don' came undone. Anyway without realising I hadn' been able to book an appt for last week WHICH I realised the night before I was meant to see her and had a mini meltdown and now im realising next week is a public holiday so it will be another week without seeing her. How do I get through all this and the work changes without having another meltdown? Advice?. Thanks in advance.

Hi @fancissnow

I find breaks from my treatment team also incredibly hard. Have you got a good GP? My GP sometimes softens the blow when my therapists are not available. If you don't have that kind of relationship with your GP you could always try now. There are not our therapists, but they can listen and help a little bit and it is good to check in.

Although you say nearly all the good work was undone over xmas, how did you cope and what did you do to get through the period without your therapist. Did you use any of the skills you learnt in DBT?

Change can be really scary, but you wrote your boss is trying to make things easier for you. He sounds like a nice boss. Can you ask him to meet with you, just to talk about any concerns you have while starting the new role. It might make you feel more comfortable.

And you can always continue posting here and get support from the members here!

All the best for your new start at work today!

Kirin, thankyou for your reply.
In regards to the break and how i coped last time. I think I definitely used skills, I just could have used them more. Or rather always used them in stead of fluctuating between willingness and willfulness. I'm able to use some now I just get down on it and think why bother and allow myself to fall back into old patterns.
As for new day of work, I do have a great boss however hes funny talking about things like my concerns etc. More of a just get in there and get it done kind of guy. I actually got injured first day in the new role and sooked out and went home. I'm back now and handling it at work. Just handling home time less :/.

I'm in a similar position. I come here. It allows me to vent so things don't escalate but also it stops me from going too far with suicidal/self-harm thoughts. Feel for you. My advice is to go over your DBT material and think of it as an opportunity to test yourself to see how far you have come and where you need improvement...then when your therapist comes back, you can share your results with them.
