Too much pain

Too much pain

How much pain does one person have to cope with in one lifetime? I am sick of being raped and abused by people in positions of trust. I want to shut the door on the whole world, and then just disappear. I am starting to lose all hope of things ever being different or better than now.

I am being overwhelmed by feelings and emotions that I just don’t know how to handle. I’m losing trust in my mental health treatment team, too. I’m just waiting for one of them to let me down, because they are the only people left that I do trust.

This is a very scary place to be at. I don’t if I have the strength to get through. Any nuggets of hope to get me through this time would be most welcome.

I hear that you are hurting but I don't know what to say.

Are you feeling safe? Have you had something to eat or drink today? Are you hydrated? Is there something you might be able to do for yourself that might soothe or distract? What about a warm shower or bath, then wrapping up in a big towel, or do you have a favourite blanket to wrap yourself in? Do you have a book to read, do you draw or write? Is there some bright cheerful music you could listen to? Do you have a favourite movie or DVD you could watch? Is there someone nearby to keep you company or are you alone?

Sorry about all the questions but for me, night times and being alone magnify my "issues" and because there's so much stuff going round and round in my head, my thoughts aren't always rational and things don't always make sense. But I keep plodding along. The forums are my "go to" place as there are so many good people here who are my virtual family, and just by knowing they are there makes me feel like I belong somewhere. But you are brave and strong for reaching out and sharing you pain. I cannot imagine what thingsyou've experienced. You belong and we care. Hugs.

Re: Too much pain

Hello @Annabelle4 Sorry you had a very difficult night.

@NatalieS's post was full of good suggestions. What will work best will be what is suits you as a unique person. What are some of the positive things that you have experienced or if you have not had the opportunity yet .. what are the things that interest you in life that you would like to experience?

Sometimes distractions help, though I do not believe in distracting all the time. Sometimes you have to face the particular problems in your life, but if through distraction you can find some positive experiences and get a better idea of where you want to be ... then thats great.

There really is a lot of people in pain in the world that is not the fault of those feeling it.

My approach is catch them being good; with kids, students .. just people. If I kept a lookout on all the times I have been let down, my head would explode more than it already does. Mostly it is pull up my socks ties up my shoes laces and take the next step.

There is a limit to what the forums can do. Sadly, we cannot undo the trauma you have experienced. Nor can your mh team, but there is hope within YOU. All the untapped potential of your life in the future is real, so give yourself more time and chances. I have learned a lot from reading about the way different people "work with" or engage their mh professionals.

I post pics as a distraction or a gift ...this one shows variety in foreground and background ...

Re: Too much pain

I love that painting @Appleblossom - it's beautiful and draws the imagination.

It is a scary place to be @Annabelle4 when we feel we can't trust anyone. I have felt like this after being traumatised and betrayed by many people in the past. But there are some people out there "we can trust" and it's about discerning the difference. Very hard to do when our emotions and thoughts are overwhelming I understand - we won't see clearly then and we will see fault in everyone as we are overthinking our pain (if we wait for one to let us down and look for fault we will find it as no one is perfect or we may misinterpret their intention - opening the door to paranoia). And that can put us in a more lonely and vulnerable place. Don't look for fault my friend - look for any good, regardless of how small and it will ease your pain.

Put your trust in one or two of your mental health team whom you feel more comfortable with and see any good in what they offer and work on it; "hope for the best" - and then take it from there to other supports - a small support group with those suffering similar issues perhaps??? And keeping our bodies and minds busy with activities that take our full concentration will help push out those negative thoughts and then we don't overthink which leads to feeling overwhelmed.

Hold onto hope as it will lead you to a better place. You can trust us - we have been there
