How to control intrusive thoughts and mental compulsion over my late mother

How to control intrusive thoughts and mental compulsion over my late mother

Lost my mum about a year ago. Apart from dealing with the grief my OCD is at its worse now.

I have very intrusive thoughts that happens every other 5 mins or so. It could be past events that reminded me of my mum - things I did wrong to her, followed by compulsive reassuring and reasoning in my head to justify myself.
It could be graphic and disturbing images.
It could be something as simple as changing upon a coffee brand and thinking whether my mother has tried this brand before - why didn’t I get it for her? And so on.

It’s so difficult to look past it because it concerns my mother, someone most personal to me. Which adds on to my shame....

I have stopped taking medicine for awhile and am planning to go back to the doctor for it soon. Have never been through therapy though.

Does anyone have some advice as to how to cope/medicine to recommend?

Thank you so much. None of my friends and family members know this and I feel so alone.

Hello @christine0902

Your doctor can refer you to a psychologist so that you can share about it and learn some strategies.

Not sure about meds that should always be by a qualified health professional.

Often the more we fight that kind of thing the hard it is to shift ... find a way between acceptance of thoughts, and mild distraction to bring you through.

Good luck with gp.

Hello @christine0902

So sorry for your loss. What you are struggling with here is perceived guilt in regardings to your mum - working through this and learning to let it go within safe therapy sessions with a good psychologist would see you through this.

We all make mistakes @christine0902 and you loved your mother. She would know this and is all that matters now as she lives on in your heart. Wishing you peace and happiness
