Something’s not right

panic

panic

I think I am havving a panic attack.

Feel like the world is closing in and am going to be sick. This happens everytime I log in to the student portal for college. I think I am scared of it. Am I?

Re: panic

Definitely sounds like a panic attack, @Queenie. I end up having a panic attack every time I look at the NDIS website—I just find it so incredibly overwhelming.

Is the student portal reasonably new to you? If so, hopefully after you’ve used it a bit more, it will seem less scary, maybe?

Re: panic

The student portal is not new @Former-Member. It's just a remindder that i am not doing so great in this course. I guess I am scared of failure because I dont want to let everybody down including myself.

Makes perfect sense to me, @Queenie. I wish our brains were kinder to us.

Re: panic

Same. It is hard for those with damaged minds. 😞

I just tried to answer a big question on the effects of trauma on ppeople. Maybe I am living with unresolved trauma myself? I just don't know. I'm trying to take deep breaths but I keep on gagging on the air and the room keeps closing in on me .

Just got to calm down. I got to get through this.

Re: panic

Hugs @Queenie sounds awful. I repeat to myself that its just anxiety and it wont really hurt me when im having panic attacks (often get chest pains) and that it will pass... then try to do something physically different for a while.. can you go for a walk or do something that will distract you from thinking so much about trying to breathe? if that makes sense?
hugs, that is a big question to try and resolve. At work am doing a lot of work on understanding and responding to childhood trauma and helping students to develop strategies and skills for self regulation but alot of it hits very close to home for me and hurts.... plus im not so great with my own interoceptive awareness doh. I hope the panic feeling eases up soon for you @Queenie

Re: panic

I submitted the assignment but afterwards, I had a massively big panic attack. I felt like I was dying. I knew it was anxiety and couldn't really hurt me, but at the same time, I feel humiliated that I broke down in the first place. If I expect to work in this industry, surely I need to develop a thicker skin? Maybe I should quit while I'm not ahead? The next subject so far is okay, I'm not totally overwhelmed yet (hopefully that won't happen either). I guess my anxiety comes from fear of the unknown. I hate the unknown.
