Putting pet to sleep.

Looks like I will have to euthanase the dog in the next few days. She's a sweet natured malamute Bella that my sister dumped with me, along with her two children so she can go live up the coast with her new husband. They already had two dogs and fell in love with Bella and brought her home. I begged them not to adopt her but they were in that honeymoon phase when the brain goes soft. So, I ended up feeding and caring for the dog, the best I could on a pension and with all the mental health issues I was experiencing. No one helped with the cost to feed her or walk her. Whatever that dog got came from me. Now I have to end her life. I wish we could escape together.

oh @Lemonjuice, so sorry to hear you are facing such a hard thing alone. Your kind heart and care have given Bella a better life than perhaps she would have had with others (sounds like sister is very self centred). You wer dumped with her (and the kids) but have made the best of a difficult situation, that speaks of strength and resilience.

I so understand the wanting "to escape together", and am reading this as code for wanting to no longer be in your own life, if am correct? I am sorry you feel that way, Lemonjuice. It is always the hardest time having to be life's decider for companion animals, emotionally straining. Is there someone you can talk to about this?

Can you afford the fee for the vet? Maybe they will allow a series of payments?

Thinking of you and hope you find strength and peace with the decision and difficult time.

@Lemonjuice ...what an angel you are to have cared for and loved Bella....im so sorry it is coming to an end ...im wishing you strength in this hard time ...know that you did the best you could for as long as you could....thinking of you both

@Lemonjuice - how lucky Bella has been to have you look after her so well.
I'm sorry the time is coming near to put her down. That is always a very hard thing to do.
