Awpgirl's 2018 Goals & Progress

Awpgirl's 2018 Goals & Progress

Anyone else interested in sharing their goals and progress for 2018?

I find being accountable for my goals helps me achieve them. I figured using this thread could help me find others who have similar goals or just to join in with progress

So far my goals are generalised and I still need to drill down to specifics.

1. Get my narcolepsy under control.
2. Manage my medication better.
3. Reduce my use of anti anxiety medication by 1 mg a day and increase use of non medication methods to manage anxiety.
4. Start regular habit of saving money
5. Graduate from at least intermediate level of pole dance class
6. Attend weekly Lyra or Silks class.
7. Start and continue self defence classes
8. Start to learn the cello
9. Get my driver's licence and a car
10. Complete couch to 5km running program and continue running 4 times a week
11. Go snowboarding at least once
12. Do something to overcome my social anxiety eg find a group to join etc
13. Learn to scuba dive
14. Create my bucketlist journal
15. Get my licence to shoot for sport
16. Get my citizenship
17. Turn my newly rented house into a home.
18. Don't mess things up with my boyfriend
19. Have someone to spend Christmas 2018 with

That's my general list .
The next step for me is to work out the details , incentives and dates to achieve them.

Re: Awpgirl's 2018 Goals & Progress

GREAT LIST

wtg @Awpgirl

I am a list person too!

I struggled a lot with narcolepsy about 15 years ago. I no longer sleep so much so I have it under control. I did it by being active too.

I would like to improve my fitness but I want it to be organic and part of a mildy active life. I have over use injuries so need to strike a balance.

Cheers

Re: Awpgirl's 2018 Goals & Progress

@Appleblossom thanks I need to have a positive focus or my depression will spital. Can I ask if you have any tips on naturally managing narcolepsy?

Personally I hate exercise. I prefer to do activities that are active such as dancing and martial arts. My severe PTSD makes it hard to get out of the house which is why I am doing the couch to 5km program.

Re: Awpgirl's 2018 Goals & Progress

Be kind to yourself. I am looking back at it from ten years. I am not sure if you have any added health issues but mine was complicated by chronic neck and head pain.

Partly I had to embrace it as I also really needed to sleep. My body must have needed the rest. I came out of the busy raising 3 children period and finally had all 3 in school. I was shocked by how much sleep I needed and it took a while to resolve my ambivalence.

If I just gave myself a hard time and set unrealistic goals I would have increased my internal conflict.

It was very gradual.

The body does have its own wisdom about its needs that are not about stats or norms.

I still have some sleep issues in that I am using meds to help regulate it a bit. I am moderately active all day now. My exhaustion has reduced and enthusiasm for life has increased.

Good Luck with it.

I love that you have 19 goals and did not feel the need to make it 20!

Re: Awpgirl's 2018 Goals & Progress

@Appleblossom i had never noticed that I stopped at 19 !!!

In fact I have 101 things I want to achieve and might increase my list as the year goes through. That is how items I have on my bucket list.

I wish I could embrace narcolepsy. However I have cataplexy as a function of the illness and I usually breakat least one bone a year from falling .plus the sleep walking the sleep paralysis the nightmares. Missing medical appointments coz I slept too late.Urghhhh it's horrible.

Re: Awpgirl's 2018 Goals & Progress

wtg 101 .. 1001 ... lol ... I just noticed it thats all ..

That is interesting. I struggled with catatonia as well for about 5 years during my most intense grief period and between 2nd and 3rd child. It feels strange to say as I also struggled with it but in a sense I did "embrace" my narcolepsy much later (10 years?), after I separated from my husband and as I finally was making progress with my neck problems. It was more a cessation of fighting myself and my bodily needs. I had been pushing my self on regardless for too long.

We are all different. I would say despite your experience of significant trauma and you have a great spirit and determination.

Great list @Awpgirl! **applauds**

I wish I was disciplined enough to make a list of goals like that and quietly achieve them. I have goals that I work on with my support worker and I've achieved almost all of them, but they are mainly lifestyle changing goals like studying and exercising more. 2018 will see whether or not I can indeed stick to them.

Re: Awpgirl's 2018 Goals & Progress

@Queenie nice to meet you.
I also do my goal work with my support worker.
I have a few support workers and they will be focussing on helping me getting back on track with social activities and reinstating dancing and some other activities that I stopped when I had my setback in November

@Appleblossom yeah my bucket list has 101 items on it. I am planning on creating a visual diary to journal each item as I achieved them.
