@Corrie Hi Corrie personally I don;t think autistic people should be in a mental health ward. That is my opinion unfortunately there are no specialized wards for autistic individuals (yet) ... in saying this it is important that your son goes back to see his psychiatrist or another specialised in autism to be evaluated and put on the right medication if need be.
If your son was going to university he must be high functioning so that is a good thing. Teenage years are always bad for autistic individuals it should improve by the time he has reached his 20s. Hang in there.

Sorry obviously it was a mistake reaching out here. Sick and tired of the same old story.

What I meant was that psychiatric units are not good for autistic people (I have an autistic child with many mental health issues) they are not equipped to handle the complex needs of a autistc individual which is why I suggested going back to see the original psychiatrist you were so happy with or one who knew about autism and psychosis. I was not having a go at you I have been in this position now for 6 years now

Hi there @Corrie
A very warm welcome to the forums, it is nice to meet you.
Sorry you have not found the forums helpful as you would like, as this is a peer to peer support platform, many others have gone through similar situations and want to try to support you with yours from their experiences, it does not mean you have to do those things but it can be nice to know there are others also going through a really tough time.
It sounds like you were you wanting some support regarding your situation? Would you like to tell us a little bit more about your experiences so we can help you better?
There are also some threads for carers where you can introduce yourself if you like as a starting point, 'Introduce Yourself here' we also have a 'Hot Chocolate thread' that is more casual if you would just like to drop by and say hello.
Lunar 🙂

Hello @Corrie
how are things now with your son and yourself..
I did not get to read your original post...
not sure if your son was detained or voluntarily admitted..
it is an extremely harrowing time for all concerned..
my adult son was detained twice..after slipping under the radar of so many different specialists..
now he has fled the state a year ago as he believes that others are doing this to him...he is fighting just about every government body imaginable..
so under no medical assistance...therefore no medication..
is this anything like what you are experiencing..?
I am here to listen and respond to anyone going through this..
this is beyond what the image of happy families represents.. Beyond what the health system purports to support...beyond anything we imagined when we held and nursed our babies..
I will get back to you if you feel comfortable talking to me..take care
