Coping with job rejections and the pressure of job searching.
Hi, I am wondering how others cope with job rejections, and manage to prevent them from impacting on their mental wellbeing.
I have studied and up skilled for several years, gaining quals in Mental Health and Community Services. I felt strongly that my lived experiences of having a Mental Illness, and of other life challenges such as homelessness and solo parenting would be of benefit in this career, as I have. A firsthand experience with what clients are living through.
However, one year on from completing my Diploma, I have noticed a feeling of anxiety when I open my Inbox, anticipating that there will be another "unsuccessful for this role" email. My ability to be resilient is fast fading, and I can feel my old frenemie Depression tugging at the corners of my mind.
The anxiety and fight or flight feelings I experience at job interviews prevent me from being able to effectively articulate my knowledge and experience, and post interviews, I am aware that my self talk and thinking patterns are becoming increasingly negative, but I don't know how to change this pattern.
In my volunteer roles I know that I am competent, but now I just feel like giving up, I feel like my mental illness is just too large an obstacle to overcome.
Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, how have they overcome these issues?
