My treating team has abandoned me...

My treating team has abandoned me...

Hey,

I am not sure if this has happened to anyone before. Two days ago I received a text message from my DBT therapist saying that my treating professionals were no longer looking after me. This came as a shock. As I had just seen one. And nothing was mentioned. I tried to contact them, but my efforts fell on deaf ears. I broke down crying. Totally freaked out. Hours later I received an email. Telling me they had stopped treating me due to recent progress in recovery. No explainations, nothing. I still haven't heard from them.

The public system has started to follow me up, as apparently that's where I got sent after having my treatment cancelled. I found out that my treating team told them that I am too dangerous to be treated in the private sector. But the thing is I'm not. I'm not lying or sugar coating it. I'm as far from dangerous as a unicorn is real. Even the people in the public system I'm seeing don't understand where this has come from. And are furious that my treating team have done this. I did have a discussion with one of them about a negative thought I had, but we both knew I would never act on it. As when I get frustrated, I self harm. I take it out on me, not anyone else. And the thought wasn't causing any danger to anyone, it was just me freaking out, I lose it and pull a sharp out of my phone.

I'm frustrated, angry and upset. I have been treated by this team for years. And I have been abandoned. They have washed their hands clean. I do not understand how they can do it.

Re: My treating team has abandoned me...

@Mimm I am not in a position to respond properly right now but I want you to know I am really angry at your team. That is in no way ok. I have BPD and I know how much I wouldn't cope with that situation. It is so totally wrong. 😠

Re: My treating team has abandoned me...

Morning @Mimm jeez! it sounds like abandonment to me too. I do say to my pyschologist (public system) when do my sessions end? do I need to re-apply? how long have I got? . She has told me that it is different for everyone. I've been asking for direction and a plan. So? maybe they will see that as progress for me and show me the door soon. I'm not saying you do that but they should tell you I think how they have measured 'progress of recovery'. The comment the medical staff said 'too dangerous to be treated in the private sector' ...I think they are bascially shifting the issue on to you, not admitting they have no idea how to treat the symptons, they sound biast using a flippant word 'dangerous' to warrant their decision. I'd feel abandoned too. Perhaps you can take comfort in the thought that you have a clear idea that you ...do not hurt others, you express frustration & anger, you recognize self-harm. Awww!! I cry too when I get annoyed with medical staff. Breathe....:)

Re: My treating team has abandoned me...

Hey @Phoenix_Rising and @Neelix

Yeah, I am struggling to cope. I want to run away and self harm. But I'm trying to get by. It's hard because people I trusted in my past were abusive. And every now and then over the past days, that stupid sentence - "too dangerous etc" pops into my head and I question if I have become like those people. I know I haven't but it doesn't stop the thoughts, it doesn't stop the questioning. I do have a lady who is helping me in the public system and she has said outright that she will fight with me and tell whoever needs to know that I'm not violent. Which has helped me feel a bit calmer. Just it's hard when the people who are suppose to help have used parts of my fear against me. But thank you for responding, it's helping to know I'm not crazy and that people see it to.

Re: My treating team has abandoned me...

Hi @Mimm
This sounds really hard, and awful. I have been through... a lot of abuse and crappy situations. through legal proceedings where i had to have psychiatric assessments done and then live with the results of a strangers hour long observations and dx. So i can relate to having sentences that other people have said pop into my mind frequently and question and feel so confused.. my psychologist and normal psychiatrist have differing opionions and ideas too and well i go round in circles!
Im glad that you have someone who is advocating for you in the public system and is there for you. Sometimes we have to carefully choose to place our trust and faith in someone and it seems you ahve found your person. I'm very glad you've found the forums.
