Q&A Info Session // What not to say to someone who has a MI // 11 - 15 Sep

From Monday, 11 Sep – Friday, 15 Sep we are opening the floor to you to share your great and not so great responses people have had when you have shared about your mental health.

With RUOK? Day coming up, we thought rather than looking at what TO say, we thought to put a spin on it and educate others on what NOT to say to someone who has a mental illness.

What do you find unhelpful?

Most importantly - what is the best response someone can have when you disclose about your mental health?

My husband found that people would say " you Don`t look like you have a Mental illness"

You know what I find unhelpful from my husband?

"can't you just take another tablet" as if a tablet is going to fix everything

When medical staff, support workers say to me 'you need to be honest' ...like? it makes me sound like I tell lies

My husband`s support group told him " we can`t Help you ", sorry they cancelled his support
