My blurb

My blurb

Hey all

I have Anxiety (strong) Depression, OCD I wouldn't really say PTSD but I do obsess over negative events that have happened in the past. I am male, 33 years old and am on medication which has for the most part been great.

I consider myself friendly and I have a good variety of hobbies and interests but I am unhappy with my life becuase I am single and without a job, 'over educated' and dwell on negative teenage experiances.

I guess that about sums it up, I suffered for quite a while with anxiety before I understood what it was and reached out for help with it by telling my parents what I was going though, tried a bunch of medications with mixed results and eventually found one that was the most helpful.

I attend Grow meetings sometimes and they can help but also not because there arn't any younger people or people around my age and they are mostly females so I think it's harder for them to understand what a male is going though.

Re: My blurb

Hi @Former-Member and welcome 🙂

I can imagine how challenges of living with MH stuff might be different between males and females. There was a topic Tuesday discussion about this recently (I'll see if I can post the link in a sec). Loneliness/isolation/disconnection and MH issues seem to go hand in hand for lots of people, and I can imagine it would be made even more challenging for men as there does seem to be fewer men using mh support services to connect with.

While everyone has a different story and difference experiences, there seems to be lots to share and relate with between all people living with anxiety/depression/ptsd etc.

You mentioned you have lots of hobbies and interests. What kinds of things are these, if you'd like to share?

It's nice to meet you Hillbear. I hope you find the forum helpful 🙂

Edit - here's the topic Tuesday thread if you'd like to have a read

Re: My blurb

Nice to meet you also Cheerbear and everyone else. I love photography, playing basketball (amateur), Bush walking, Collecting rare coins and such. Yes it is sad that fewer men don't seek help for Mental illness as women do.

Sometimes I love my life and myself but I have some very bad days as well and I especially get lonely.

Re: My blurb

You do have quite a few interests and hobbies @Former-Member! Do you ever use a metal detector to hunt for coins? I had a go at one over Christmas time when a relative brought theirs over to share and it was so much fun! We went to a couple of old churches and buildings and I lost a fair few hours digging around the dirt.

I can understand how some days things can feel really good, and other days are seriously tough. On those tough days, it doesn't seem to matter how much great there is, it all just sucks. The forum helps me feel a lot less lonely and on my own - I hope you find that too.

Also, if you put the @ in front of someone's name, they'll get a notification and it makes it easier to be able to reply 🙂
