Isolating myself

Isolating myself

Hey folks,

I joined Sane forums to see if it helps...

At the moment, I only go out of house if I am working or run out of food and go to Woolies.

Wherever i go people around me have a go at me, it feels very personal. All I want to do is fight back. The main issue is it gets confusing because it could be symptoms of my illness. So it feels like they got away with it and I let myself get bullied. So it discourages me from going out for walks and other things...

I am on medications, which help. I want to go out more. Anxiety is an issue, and I like to rise above it.

I have been attending support groups like GROW and Hearing Voices. They help.

Anyone got any practical advice for me how to deal with voices ? let me know thanks!

Hi @Former-Member,

Welcome to the forum. I hope you find it as supportive as I do. I'm pretty socially isolated too and I really appreciate the social connections here in Forum Land.

I don't hear voices, but I know there are quite a few people here on the forum that do. It sounds like @Pepsimax has some good ideas for coping with that. I can't imagine how frustrating and distracting it must be hearing voices. I'm glad you have been able to find some support groups in your area.

I hope to see you around in Forum Land.

Hello @Former-Member

Welcome to the forums, it is nice to meet you 🙂

It is really good that you are reaching out for help and trying to find ways of coping with your anxiety and hearing voices, I have found some other threads that might somehow help.

@samt31 started a great thread here about voices.

There was also a Topic Tuesday discussion on hearing voices here as well as another great thread by @Queenie here

I hope you can try some things that help you to feel more calm so you can do still do your walks and things.

Lunar 🙂

Re: Isolating myself

Hi @Former-Member and welcome to the boards!

I am a self confessed voice hearer and attend regular hearing voices groups in my community.

At the beginning of the year I was hospitalised for a month for a psychotic break. During this time, I heard voices telling me to harm myself and worse, harm those that I love and care about. I get by these days still hearing voices. I take a myriad of medications to help keep me well, I also find exercise and eating healthy helps as well as distractions such as listening to music, art, watching movies or tv shows I enjoy and pottering around in the internet. Another big distraction for me is keeping busy as possible. Next semester, I aim to undertake a Diploma in Community Services which I then want to use as a pathway into University to study Social Work. Having dreams and aspirations I think, is very important to maintain wellness and help keep mood disorders at bay like depression.

Re: Isolating myself

thanks for taking the time to reply..

I consider myself fortunate that the voices I hear are only directed towards me and not to influence me to do something harmful. Its unfortunate I have this illness but its not as bad as full blown illness. I used to use anger as motivation to exercise in the past. These days I am just so mellow probably sideeffect due to high dose of my medications. Thats fact, not an excuse. I know what to do, I just gotta do it. Start gradually and build momentum.

Anyways, I had good day at work today, I made 2 good friends at work whom I trust, which makes it easier, someone to talk to, on bad days at work. There are few dropkicks at work. No workplace is perfect. I dont engage with those people. I try to remain positive and take one day at a time.

Good luck with Tafe course, I am sure you will do well. Be well. Good luck with your recovery.
