When to see the GP?

When to see the GP?

Hi all,

I need some advice... or at least confirmation if my thinking is correct.
I've had a really hard 6 months including my father attempting suicide and I've also been really low (history of depression, anxiety, ED and suspected BPD). I've changed antidepressant recently and had a dosage increase 11days ago. I'm still really low though and not due to go back to the GP for another 10days. Should I try and get an appointment to discuss it before I'm due to go back? My GP is showing booked out on the online booking thing so I don't want to ring up and beg for an appointment if I'm just being stupid.
Please help!

Cheers,
Billamba

Re: When to see the GP?

Hi @Billamba,

i can't give you medical advice but I can share my experiences if that helps at all. In the past my GP wouldn't want to see me until after 3-4 weeks because sometimes it takes a while for the antidepressants to work. It doesn't mean it will work or they won't need to change it but I think they make sure first that there is a good length of time for the meds to work.

However if you just want to check in and you are worried about how low you are then it would be better to talk to them that let it slide too far down. Please know this is just my opinion, I have no medical background.

Wishing you all the best.

Hello @Billamba

Nice to meet you 🙂 thank you for sharing with us

I agree with @Former-Member about the medications it can take a while for you to adjust, but some people find it helpful to check in with the gp in the meantime just to get some extra support right now. Especially if you are feeling quite low at the moment... are you also seeing a counsellor or psychologist to get some more support right now?

You can also call the reception and have a little chat to them about how you are doing and explain that you would like to see your gp or if there is another there that also might be able to help you in the meantime?
