Trying but failing

Trying but failing

Hi ..this is my first time on the forum after being told about it by a friend.. I suffer from PTSD and major depression ,anxiety .recently was discharged from hospital after spending 4weeks in the psychiatric ward for the second time after attempting suicide..i have been home now for 4days and already starting to feel lost and hopless again ..even trying to apply what I learnt in group classes during my stay in hospital seems impossible.. I'm posting this not for answers but just as a way of saying it out loud ..l live on my own so I'm hoping by doing this I can clear my mind just a little ...feels like it's going to be a long night ...
Hope I can get through ..

Re: Trying but failing

Hi and welcome to the forums @Raglan - glad you've found the forums. I also have a dx of PTSD and major depression... and also spent a month in hospital a few years ago after an attempt. I think it can be really hard to come out of that strict routine environment back into the 'real world'. Do you have any one you can phone for some support now that you're home? I think i had some numbers for the mental health triage line/nurses maybe when i left. Living on your own is also hard, i'm a single mum and it can be so hard and lonely.
I also find it hard to use the strategies i have to get through. sometimes people remind me to focus on one thing at a time in this present second which sometimes helps. I find focussing on a hot cup of tea or playing sudoku or something helps to divert my attention for a few moments and gives me a slight break from the anxiety symptoms or relentless thoughts/images in my head.
Glad you are here, and hope that you find some support here,
Take care

Re: Trying but failing

Hi @Raglan and @Former-Member,

A warm welcome to the forums @Raglan I'm glad you found us after being referred from your friend. I hope you find it a supportive space where you can share your experiences and feel heard.

Being at home when living on your own after four weeks of being in hospital would be incredibly tough. Applying what is taught in group therapy can be challenging sometimes and takes practice. It also depends on what is happening for you at the time, as what works can often change so having a number of things to try can be helpful. Did you find that posting what you were thinking helped to clear your mind a little?

I'm glad that you have some supports set-up and are waiting for these appointments to begin.

How are you feeling today? I hope today is a better day for you

Re: Trying but failing

Hi Rockpool.. thanks for the post...just wanted to say it was a great help to be able to post on the forum last night.. it gave the chance to just voice how I was feeling and made me acknowledge the negative thoughts ..
Today has been ok ...managed to get past the front door and have a walk for an hour which helped clear the head a bit ..
Just need to keep reminding myself it's work in progress.
Thanks again sean
