Borderline, bipolar, redundancy & sexual harassment

Borderline, bipolar, redundancy & sexual harassment

I called lifeline and got the advice to come here so here I am.

I've done DBT for borderline and if this is as good as life is going to get then there isn't much to live for.

I got made redundant but luckily secured a much more suitable position 2 weeks after.

The new job i have this charismatic, married boss. Who made demeaning comments about my role/status in the team, asked me about my sex life and told me about his marriage problems. I offered advice. Colleague / friend definitely blurred. I feel completely insane like I've misinterpreted all this inappropriate behavior as flirtation. It came to a head when he showed me an injury on his leg (which meant removing his pants) in a meeting room. I couldn't let it go and had 2 conversations about boundaries.

To save his own skin in fear of me making a formal complaint (which i wouldn't have done despite the rude text msg I sent ) he told his boss which is humiliating all over again. So now I'm having to take it formal anyway and don't want to ruin my career so said we'd just sort it out anyway so long as he sees a counselor. (For his inappropriate behavior and marriage probs that he shouldn't be divulging in the workplace to his subordinate).

What's worse is my friends don't really get how much it's affecting me. My best friend is never there for me. Then she turns it around on me and tells me I'm abusing her - all I said was please don't call if you don't want to or can't talk as it's upsetting. So we aren't speaking.

I hate my family. I have no one.

Hi @Azuumi

I wanted to welcome you to the Sane Forum which has been rather busy this weekend!

Gosh you have had a bad run at your new job with your boss' inappropriate behaviour. I'm always astounded at what (usually) male managers think they can get away with in their interactions with female staff. In a way it is good that it came to the attention of senior management, and can be dealt with systematically.

It is humiliating but hopefully you will be supported and protected at work. It's very hard going through something like that and feeling like your support people aren't there for you.

You will find good support here amongst the members and I'm sure some have had similiar types of bullying or harrassment at work. Do you have a counsellor that you see?

I look forward to chatting with you further.

Regards,

Frog

Thanks for your reply. I have a counsellor and Im seeing them. Its not really good that management know because in terms of my career the only "right" answer is to say that I'm fine and to not bring HR into it. .. for the most part.. this manager does a good job. it was a bad decision and i dont want to cause a scene. i dont want to be a trouble maker. its complicated.

Hello @Azuumi

I am so sorry you went through that, that is completely unacceptable and you shouldn't be worried about speaking up and feeling like a trouble maker when none of this is your fault but I do get that it is complicated when it really shouldn't be. You sound very brave to be able to stand up to him and enforce your boundaries twice, good on you.

It seems like your friend isn't aware of how much stress this is causing you at the moment which isn't a nice feeling at all, it's good that you are seeing a counsellor as well. Are you looking after yourself in other ways? Like self-care and doing enjoyable things in your spare time?

Lunar 🙂
