An Unfamiliar Calm

An Unfamiliar Calm

4:30am and wide awake. I feel so 'at peace' its almost unnerving, but not even anxiety's getting a look in. Its hard to put into words so plz let me know if you can relate.

I can even see the dark place I've been for some weeks now, So black! really hope it was as hidden as I hope. Times like that I usually lose friends - saying the wrong things (angry and reactive), actually, come to think of it - I might have lost a couple, hope not because I can get pretty self absorbed like that and hope they forgive me. In retrospect, I'm ashamed to have lacked so much self control, especially lashing out, but don't know where to begin to apologise. It went on for weeks (maybe +2-3months) but I'm not fully aware. Now, all of a sudden - I can see that for what it was, and strange enough, I'm not even defaulting to beating myself up over it as usual. Wondering if its some kind of bipolar (not just depression). BAck to present moment, I'm pleased to feel good for a change and just wanted to throw it out there. Should I be worried? Is anyone getting this? Felt this before? Daytime is about to break through and I'm actually looking forward to it. Very strange!

Hi @Former-Member,

I'm not sure that I can totally relate to what you are describing but it does sound like the possibility of bipolar vs depression may be worth investigating. Getting clarity around this might lead to a change in treatment approach that could make the calm periods longer and the dark periods shorter. I don't really know, but it certainly sounds like it would be worth looking at. I'm super happy for you that today is shaping up to be a good day for you.

Re: An Unfamiliar Calm

Thanks @Phoenix_Rising, hope your day goes well too. You know, I hesitate to go have another label added to my MH history when the MH System resources are so low that all the're funded to do well is prescribe tablets with unhelpful side affects. So many MH labels seem to overlap, living alone gives me no backup and i don't really have a good GP. But hey, not going there today, gonna enjoy feeling good 🙂

The weather is settling in to be a real home day, a pajama day, overcast, trying to rain, lots pf birds out though 🐦🐥🐤🐥🐦

I'm with @soul

Having the experience of calm after difficult times is very healing'

Though that calm may be disrupted again, it helps knowing no matter how extreme our emotions have been they can settle EVENTUALLY.

Re: An Unfamiliar Calm

@Former-Member. It sounds like a wonderful feeling to experience - calm. And it seems like a bit of what I call an -Aha moment. A sense of clarity after a dark period.
I'm ao glad you are experiencing this & I hope it continues for you.
