Memory ?

Memory ?

Hi i have been put on more mrds and now find my memory is failing. Faces i recognize but cant put names to them even people i have known for years. It is a side afect that i was told will go in time but its causes nore depresive thoughts and not wanting to leave the house.

Has anone else delt with this and any hints im scared of losing it altogether as it seems to be getting worse.

Re: Memory ?

@SCORPION
I found the sleeping tablets my psychiatrist put me on, really affected my memory last year. Luckily that was a medication that I was able to stop taking. And my memory has now improved.
How long does the dr think this side effect will last for? Is he talking a few more weeks of this memory loss/fog or is he talking longer?
It's a concern if it's expected to be a longer term side effect - as it is having an Impact on your depression.
Are you being monitored - extra appointments while dealing with this side effect? You may want to talk to your gp or psychiatrist about getting extra appointments.
As your depression has increased - try to be gentle with yourself. Self care is so important. Try and do something you enjoy - everyday.
I hope others with experience of this type of side effect can give you some advice that helps.

Hi @SCORPION,

Some great points raised by @utopia. Definitely check in with the doc to see how long this usually lasts. It could that your body is adjusting, and it might level out. Or it could be medication that doesn't work.

@Shaz51 started this thread here about her husband experiencing memory loss, and and @Former-Member provided some really useful information. Perhaps they might also be able to offer some advice here?

Re: Memory ?

Hi @SCORPION - im sorry that this didnt get a response sooner! I havent had 'memory loss' perse from meds but one med that took made me so vague that i lost/misplaced everything, found it hard to remember names or called people by the wrong names etc and also made me feel much worse about myself in general, lost more self esteem. For me that med never worked but was able to work through that with my really supportive psychiatrist which was helpful. I would definitely head back to the prescribing dr and ask lots of questions and let them know how much its currently affecting you. I hope that it does pass for you and becomes helpful!

Hi thanks for al replys . yes i have extra appointments. the Gp doesnt know how long it will go on as they say the side afects out way the good.these meds are also affecting my vision ie blurry on and off.The meds are for nerve pain and do seem to work for this which i am greatfull for as it means i get some rest.but i have to be carefull as i now find i eiter forget to take my main meds or as last night take twice which caused me to start seeing things and feeling very weird,it was only this morning that i worked out id taken my meds twice.

Re: Memory ?

@SCORPION. When my memory was really bad I bought myself a weekly medication dispenser. One a week I fill it up. It has a morning and evening section for each day. And I can clearly see if I've taken today's medications. There are more expensive dispensers on the market with multiple sections for each days meds.
If you are on a pension, I believe your pharmacy will make up despenser packs for you for free. Worth looking into.
The side effects with the vision don't sound too good. Hopefully that is also a temporary side effect. But when you are in constant pain - I imagine any relief from the pain would be great.

Re: Memory ?

Not good @SCORPION, I have heard Coconut Oil has helped memory +++ So trying to add that in a shake every day. Omega3 is said to be good too. For lots of things actually. The brain can heal itself. Let's try not lose hope 🍁
