Talking through trauma and PTSD

Coming to terms with potential past trauma

Coming to terms with potential past trauma

I have been feeling and questioning specific events of my past, rather haunting me more or less. Events which I have normalised for so long, but slowly I have felt a light shine through its horrid cracks, potentially revealing something quite traumatic.

It wouldn’t be fair to exasperate a long winded storyline or benchmark of said events and what they’ve led up to, but rather to lean on this space as a way of getting a general and anonymous view/spectatorship.

Thank you.

Thanks for sharing but cannot give too much of an opinion without knowing anything. Talk to a doctor or psychologist to gain a better understanding or stance of the situation and its effects. A lot of life is cause and effect. Some in our control and some out of our control.

Good luck and I know it is hard to explain weach of our stories or life events.

Re: Coming to terms with potential past trauma

Hi @Karloff

these is a whole bunch of research about the concept of "normalizing trauma" which I stumbled upon a few years back. It was very eye-opening for me, and it made me realize that I had done this - I had normalized the bad stuff that happened to me in order to try and cope with it. This was a form of self-protection for me.

Not having anyone to talk to about things and trying to process everything by myself - because I was brought up to be unusually independent, played a role in this.

Intellectually, I knew that it was okay to seek help for my issues, but emotionally, I was very closed off to the idea. I thought only people who 'couldn't cope' sought help. I thought that not coping was the ultimate failure. This line of thinking was very self-destructive for me.

Now I am very open to getting help for my issues, and it's a huge relief to tell someone how I am feeling.

If you would like to talk about things, then that could be a place to start, but no pressure, of course.

Hi@Karloff

You have come to the right place to express your concern or worries.Trauma is difficult to go through and a psychological injury caused by low life's. I hope you get a good support system around you. Make sure your GP is trauma informed because not all GPS are. Should you wish you can contact victims services in your area where you can get your therapy paid for and possible compensation for the trauma. Best wishes. Should you have more questions please don't hesitate to ask anytime.
