Something’s not right

So I just realised that I was molested when I was a minor.

So I just realised that I was molested when I was a minor.

Damn but I hate the word grooming. It was probably something like grooming adjacent by my teachers. (yeah there was an s.) honestly I have no idea what to feel about that bc wow. Except thank god my best friend didn't have this problem. I think I'm still fine. Oh and thank god they aren't teaching anymore. I'm eating food. uh. I actually did do volunteering for other victims of sexual assault when I was a kid, so now I guess I actually do understand why they didn't like shout it out or anything. Many of this happens in public spaces and uses excuses like a quick pat for good luck or something like that. So I don't feel like really traumatised. Ok maybe a little confused bc what am I supposed to do with this information. I just realised years later. The closest one has been what. 1 year ago at least. (damn my dysgraphia and adhd is really showing isn't it I am totally not making sense.) Maybe I don't feel so good. Bc I honestly thought that it was just one other peer that sexually harassed me, I guess? And I was like sure. I can dislike her no problem and then theres the: oh they're a good teacher. Except for the molesting. BECAUSE WHAT. (Like lowk every single person who molested me was of the same gender.) and I've also dated pedos (nothing happened except we dated. no kissing no physical contact except for hugs. that was also through puffer jackets. so thats not fine but could have been worse sort of fine.) WOW ok. I read the community guidelines and I hope I adhered to it. Damn. I hope no one has to ever experience this. (seriously I did volunteering as a kid, dude how did I not realise what was happening until years later!! with my exes too!! DUDE!!!) I kinda know exactly what I should be saying in this situation, so I told myself in the mirror and I think that wasn't so good for dissociation bc I was in the role of the helper not the one being helped. I mean I feel better I guess. I didn't judge them I'm not gonna judge me now. Just still complex emotions. (Also my friend also said something that was really NOT good for recovery, aka. oh it was probably bc u were cute. even tho its not ur fault. yeah that sounds like I took part in it which is a big NO. dunno how to feel about that.)

@Akiiiiooo

It makes sense that your brain would have suppressed the awareness of what was happening at the time to protect you from the reality of it. It also makes sense that part of you might feel fine and part of you might not.

I think it can sometimes be helpful to speak to the part of ourselves that’s hurting and tell them what we needed someone to tell us at the time. It can feel really weird because of the dissociation and it’s ok to also need help from others, but also I think it may have been a good instinct to tell that part of you what you’d have said to one of the kids you volunteered with. It’s understandable that you’d have really complex feelings about it all.

I’m sorry your friend said that. It would have been very unhelpful and I get why you’d have been uncomfortable with it!

I imagine that you’d have encouraged the kids you volunteered with to reach out for support and I hope you’re able to do that for yourself too. Well done for reaching out on the Forums. BlueKnot might be an additional source of support as well? Do you have any other places that you’re thinking of reaching out to for support?

Hello@Akiiiiooo

Sorry to hear that you have experienced abuse. I recommend contacting your victims services in your area. You can report what happened to you should you wish. But more importantly you will get support from them. You can apply for therapy and it will be covered by them. It is usually is through a psychologist that is connected to them. Therapy is expensive so it will be covered by them. You might be able to also apply to get compensation for what happened it's called a recognition payment. Here is the link choose the one for what state you are in. https://knowmore.org.au/for-survivors/compensation-options/victims-support/ please feel free to ask about any questions or support. Best wishes.
