Struggling - not sure if I’m in the right place.

Struggling - not sure if I’m in the right place.

Hello

I am new here so not sure if it’s the right place. I have a husband who has had an injury 3 years ago then made redundant so hasn’t been able to return to work. He hasn’t has anxiety and depression and has at times spoken about suicide. I work from home so we are together all the time which is good - but I am starting to feel exhausted with a husband who is not well. I have also been in cancer treatment and monitoring since 2022 so have a very positive outlook on life and want to ‘live’ as much as I can. I’m not sure what I need maybe just a space to speak about how it’s impacting me. I’m a very positive person and find holding the space very draining id love any advice or suggestions on how to cope.

Hello @MrsExhausted,

You have absolutely come to the right place. A big forums welcome to you. 🥰

It sounds like you and your partner are managing a lot right now and it makes sense that with all you have experienced, you are wanting to embrace your life as much as possible.

It sounds like he is really needing some additional support right now - is this something he is open to?

You mentioned that you are a very positive person and wanting to 'live' as much as you can, so I am curious, what do you specifically wish was different about your life and relationship right now?

Can you also ask your partner this? I wonder if encouraging new experiences and ways to connect might be helpful here?

I recognise this can be really tough where depression, anxiety, and illness are concerned - but perhaps checking in around what you'd both like life to look like could be a supportive conversation starter? Maybe from there, you can also check-in around the thoughts and feelings that come up when exploring these ideas? Getting specific about what we are experiencing can also be really helpful in taking steps forward. (I hope this makes sense!)

What are your thoughts on this? 🫶

Re: Struggling - not sure if I’m in the right place.

Thankyou for replying. I feel good that I have found a safe space.

Thankfully my husband is seeing a psychologist so he has that support.

To answer your question I don’t want to change anything about our life I am very content I just feel helpless and sad that my husband is going through this and I can’t help him. I mean I do miss what it was like before where I didn’t need to worry about him, our relationship is very good we communicate quite well. He is always worried and I know he is feeling like he can’t see much to look forward to.

It’s more than I feel tired from needing to make sure he is ok all the time. He seems to resent me (not in a bad way I can’t just tell) when I make plans with friends or fun things.

Thankyou

I think was searching for some validation because I can’t tell him everything I’m feeling I wouldn’t want him to think he is making me sad.

I really appreciate the response.

Re: Struggling - not sure if I’m in the right place.

I hear you, thank you so much for answering my questions. It sounds like you love him to bits and that so many things work within your connection (which is amazing!), but on the other hand, he is needing some extra support to reconnect with his sense of self right now outside of your relationship - is that correct?

I wonder if being involved in some community spaces/projects might help to bring that sense of aliveness and safety back into his world?

He may actually find our Recovery Club program helpful - have you looked into it yet?

I am also wondering what his psychologist has been suggesting? 🥰

Have you been doing anything nurturing for yourself this week? @MrsExhausted 🫶
