BPD Awareness Week 1-7 October 2026

BPD Awareness Week 1-7 October 2026

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that its BPD awareness week this week.

I would also like to offer anyone who wants to share about their lived experience of having or being a carer for someone with BPD.

https://www.livedexperienceaustralia.com.au/bpdsurvey

I have been given, then had removed, a diagnosis of BPD. What startled me was how little nuance there is in discussions of BPD. Navigating the diagnosis led to multiple traumas for me, including ppl treating me differently, attributing everything that happened to me as a sign of "what borderlines go through" and assuming for example that i am unable to handle being discharged from a service, or that I have a fear of abadonment.

I encourage everyone to share in their own words and own their own story. ANd if you have a diagnosis of BPD and its caused you to be treated differently in your care, I hope you find ppl who understand :)

Hey @EternalFlower Good to see you highlight this.

You are right there should be a lot more nuance in the care of those experiencing the distress of BPD type of symptoms.

https://scienceinsights.org/how-long-has-bpd-been-around-history-explained/

In my understanding the whole reason BPD (Borderline personality disorder) was invented as a category, was to be descriptive of the space between the experiences of psychosis and neurosis, hence 'borderline'. If the application of a DSM diagnosis was humanistic and wholistic and involved seeing the person with their individual psyche in their particular social circumstances, there may be far more therapeutic outcomes.

Practitioners please pay attention to the unique human before you, experiencing distress. Dont turn clinical or therapeutic relationshps into a limited label or a chemistry set of equations, only solved by medication.

Hi, @EternalFlower @Appleblossom

Its good to see people talking about BPD.

I have BPD and was diagnosed at 16 years old. I do find that I have been put in a box. People assume we are all the same, but we aren’t all the same. I have talked to other people with BPD and I can say that we all have different struggles.

I do want things to change as I have been told numerous times that being diagnosed with BPD no matter what you say or do people will treat you differently and the system will treat you differently. I want that to change to consider ‘what has happened to us.’
