how to get adequate help as a woman

how to get adequate help as a woman

Experience alot of discrimination getting help and challenges around diagnoses alot of male dr are culturally bias and not trauma aware.because of misdiagnosis this makes me more vulnerable to abusers who like to use the labels against me, if I challenge the label it is harder

Hi @m_t45,

Welcome to the SANE Forums!

Thank you for sharing what’s been going on for you. It can be exhausting to seek help and feel that your experiences aren’t being understood, especially when you’re concerned that a diagnosis may be used against you by someone else. You deserve to be listened to and to have space to ask questions about your care.

If you feel comfortable sharing what kind of help are you hoping to find at the moment, other members may be able to share what helped them feel heard when seeking support or asking for another opinion.

Thank you for reaching out and connecting, we’re glad you’ve joined the community!

Hello @m_t45

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulty getting a diagnosis for your mental health. Are you able to see a female doctor who has an interest or specialization in mental health? You might have to call some local medical centres and ask if they have a doctor who has an interest in mental health and is trauma informed.

Hi @m_t45, welcome to the Forums. Thank you for sharing some of what you’ve been experiencing. It sounds incredibly frustrating and difficult to feel that your experiences haven’t always been understood or that you haven’t felt heard or supported when seeking help

It also sounds like having diagnoses discussed or used in ways that feel harmful has made it harder for you to feel safe and trust the people supporting you. I’m sorry you’ve had to navigate that

I hope you find some understanding and connection here with us, and that the Forums can be a place where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences at your own pace 💛
