Lost in "Life"

Lost in "Life"

I've given up and although I believe that I have given my best I don't think it was enough. I am a great grandmother, married over 50 years. I have dealt with drug addiction in the family, sexual assault. Mental health, Prostitution. Criminal activities. Custody battles, Homicide, suicide, infant death, cancer, abuse, heart attack, stroke, house fire, poverty and lost everything material, and had to start again from scratch several times over.. I am exhausted and have little inspiration to keep struggling. I feel insignificant to those I love and the rock they believe in is crumbling.

Hi @2much-4me, and welcome to the forums

I’m really sorry you’re feeling so exhausted and overwhelmed right now. You’ve been through an incredible amount over the years, and it sounds like you’ve spent so much of your life being there for other people and trying to keep everything together. It’s understandable that you’re feeling like you’re running out of strength

I just wanted to check in and ask whether you’re safe right now? If you’re feeling like you might hurt yourself or you’re not sure you can keep yourself safe, please reach out for immediate support by calling 000 or Lifeline on 13 11 14. You don’t have to carry this moment on your own 💛

Re: Lost in "Life"

Hello@2much-4me,

Sorry to hear that you have gone through so much. Sounds like you have taken on other family member's problems and held everyone together. That is a lot to take on at your age. You can no longer take on any more, your nervous system is under heavy strain. That can result in trauma over time, when something repeatedly happens that is incredibly stressful or threatens your safety. You need a lot of rest and most of all support. If things feel very hard or unsafe please call your mental healthline in your area.they will come out to see you. Please go see a local GP to get mental health support. You need to start saying NO MORE to people even if they are family. You are on verge of collapse and deserve compassion and care especially at your age People need to be looking after you, not you looking after them. Be very gentle on yourself sending many hugs 🤗 You could also call Centrelink and ask to speak to a social worker as they have a lot of support services.
