Career burn out

Career burn out

Hi, I’m looking for support as a parent and primary carer. My 12-year-old son has complex behavioural and emotional regulation difficulties, and recently his behaviour has escalated to severe aggression and property damage at home. There have been incidents where he has physically assaulted me, and I also need to protect my younger child.

I recently had to call an ambulance during a serious incident. I’m feeling extremely overwhelmed, exhausted and constantly on edge.

I’m not looking for judgement or labels. I need support for myself and guidance on how to cope with this situation safely as a parent.

Re: Career burn out

Dear @PinkyButterfly ,

I hear how challenging things are for you right now. It sounds like such a tricky time where you are doing your best to stay afloat. I want to acknowledge your strength in reaching out for support.

As you've reached out to emergency services recently, did you get any supports in place - both for your children and yourself?

You may be interested in this service for parents of 12-18 year olds: https://parents.au.reachout.com/one-on-one-support

Parentline may also be a good service for those times when you really need to speak to someone: https://parentline.com.au/

Alternatively, SANE offers a free RecoveryClub where you can book in 1:1 sessions, group sessions, view resources etc.: https://www.sane.org/recovery-club

Please look after yourself.

Once again, if you feel things are unsafe for you or your children, please contact 000
