(TW maybe) Any tips for mitigating this voice that is constantly saying "I hate you!" etc?
Hi all,
So first off I'm not schizophrenic. This voice is "me", more or less.
Randomly throughout the day this internal voice says things like "I hate you!", "You need to die!", "You're a horrible person!", etc.
I don't know what particular thing or time triggers it or anything, it just pops up quite often.
I can't "catch" or "interupt" the thought - it just happens, like its blurting the words out.
I've tried to "talk" to the voice too, saying things like "That's not true" or "No need to say that" but it's like what I'm saying is just platitudes and is fake and the voice knows this. Replying with nice words or positive affirmations has no affect.
It kinda feels like the voice is right because it has evidence. When the voice 'surfaces' it is often followed by memories of things that I've done wrong (or am doing wrong). The voice says "You're a bad person" and pulls in memories of when I failed someone or something, or when I hurt someone, or something I've screwed up. Its like it says "You're a bad person as proven by evidence A".
When I try to counter these 'statements' with positive affirmations, I have, well, nothing to back myself up with. If I feel I have 'evidence' to back my claim I feel the voice just laughs and says "Well of course you're going to be positive and defend your self! You're biased! This means nothing".
Does anyone know how I could counter this voice or better deal with it? I don't really want to talk to an MH professional about this stuff for fear of being branded s**cidal or schizophrenic.
Many thanks
