Feeling Sad

Feeling Sad

My dad's passing feels even more depressing on Father's Day than it every had before, it feels so empty and draining, especially as health issues have developed since his passing. everything feels so tiring

i feel i need emotional support, words of advice, reassurance that taking the steps that lead to the discovery of these health issues was a good choice

Re: Feeling Sad

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. ❤️

Grief has a strange way of changing shape as time goes on. You might think you’ve made some progress, and then a day like Father’s Day comes around and suddenly the absence feels enormous all over again. That doesn’t mean you’re going backwards. It just means you miss your dad.

And I’m sorry that you’re also dealing with health issues on top of that. When you’re already carrying grief, having your own health become difficult can make everything feel heavier and more exhausting than it otherwise might.

Please be gentle with yourself. You don’t have to be okay today. You don’t have to make sense of how you’re feeling, either. Sometimes getting through the day is enough.

I hope you can find a small way to remember your dad today, even if it’s just listening to a song he liked, looking at an old photo, having his favourite food, or simply talking to him in your head for a little while.

You clearly love and miss him very much. That love doesn’t disappear just because he isn’t here anymore. ❤️

Take care of yourself, love. One day at a time

Hi @moodyahhhhh

I’m sorry things have been so rough for you. Father’s Day hits hard when your dad’s no longer around. I find it helpful to celebrate the day by eating his favourite food. It’s nice to remember who he was even though he is no longer around. Health issues on top of grief must be really rough. I hope you find relief soon. Do you find that distractions help at all? I hope you know that you are not alone and that this community is here to support you.

@Lapis_Anteater

i dont want to discredit your idea because i think its a good one, unfortunately for me the feelings of gloom sling back right after a distraction occurs for me. for a better comparison it is similar to social hangover after catching up with people

i wish i could remember his favourite food (that is homemade), i try think of one of the restaurants he really liked but the local one closed and the other one nearby is near a place im not fond of due to other reasons

Anniversaries, feast days and grief can be hard. It doesn't have to be food, but a memory, or behaviour that gives you a positive connection can help. My dad liked candles, so I light one for him every now and then. The say it can help to have a way to externalise the grief and the memories so we dont always carry it within our being.

Sorry you have health concerns yourself. Hope you can find ways through it all.
