Isolated

Isolated

I never go out on the weekend.

It feels so weird because I swear everyone seems to go out and live a happy life and if you don't it feels like you're living a nightmare.

How can you find people that care for you if people like good vibes, not that you're a bad vibe but how are you supposed to get them to understand that. Actually a lot of people have friends but they'll be like wanting to take advantage of your body (guys) or on drugs, and still manage to have good friends. No one talks about when you don't. I've dealt with feeling like I am not worthy of love because I don't have other friends.

I wish I could just find someone/people that would take me in. Maybe I really should join something but I need money. People have built up friends, it's like everyones always got someone to text back and fourth with.

Me? No, I used to have lots of "friends", but than I stopped being an addict, and now... I'm left sitting by myself basically every weekend because I don't have anyone that thinks i'm cool enough to have friends. I live in my own apartment, a family member gifted me it, and its nice. People get jealous and envious. I have dealt with mean people, and I have tended to talk with some mentally challenged, and drug users in the past. Which I would make excuses for because so many people do it at my age early 20s. I have come to realise that you have to take care of yourself though. I really do want to make something of myself, I don't want to end up like how my mum did. It was sad. I'm scared about my brother being like me. It just makes you feel shit because you would love to hang but every time i do, i'm too much, not enough or the persons secretly envious. I want to get out of this and meet some people that will be on the same page as me. Or does that like stop happening once you get to adulthood. I don't think so idk. I want friends that if I see them in public well be so happy to see each other, scream than be so happy in the moment i'll forget what I was doing.

Does anyone else feel this way like me?

I have been very isolated like this for almost a decade maybe even my whole life tbh.

Re: Isolated

Hi @StrawberryKiss ,

It sounds incredibly lonely to feel that way. Stepping away from addiction and relationships that weren't healthy for you shows a great deal of strength, even if rebuilding connection has felt painfully slow. You are worthy of friendship and care - and you don't have to be "cool enough" to deserve either.

I'm glad you reached out here and I wonder if other community members can relate to the difficulty of making genuine friendships in adulthood or have found accessible ways of meeting people.

Re: Isolated

Dear @Honeymoon

I hope you are safe and wonder how others opinion of you impacts on the way you feel about yourself.

It may be that they reflect your feelings

You are a valued human being here and don't need the validation of others.

Please don't put your brothers well-being ahead of your own.

It's not your responsibility.

Yes I too feel the loss of friendships and have problems connecting with others.

I keep myself somewhat busy, but have times when I feel very lonely and tbh jealous of those who don't.

I've ventured out to yoga, bookclubs, volunteering etc the only way of success in the real world is to believe in what I am.

Absolutely impossible to stop those who are envious as they don't and can't comprehend your plight

Be kind to yourself my dear and please don't hesitate to reach out here

We are a diverse and caring community who while we may not actually have your personal experience have our own.

Go gently ✨️ Taali

Re: Isolated

Just wanted to say that I too had around 5 years where I was very isolated and had disconnected from my past friends. Isolation and for me an addiction to screens had caused me to feel I was falling behind. However, I now believe that the Universe was just nurturing me slowly into becoming who I am today. Slowly, over time, I started to believe in a brighter future for myself and in the possibility of change. I took what felt to me like some drastic measures (throwing out all the technology that was getting in my way) and started by going places. Whether it was a beach or a park. I slowly started getting out of my shell and when I was ready I pursued Tertiary education. With community support after a hospitalization and choosing to love who I am and believing in myself slowly and steadily, I was able to start making connections with people again and slowly improve my socialization skills. It took time, but some of the things that make me happy now is having long-term goals and practising gratitude for the little things I have. I believe in you!
