I am tied…

I am tied…

Hi all, I am emotionally overwhelmed…..

I have been with my husband since I was 18 over 30 years, we have 4 children two with autism. I was a stay at home mum for 15 years, now I work full time and am the bread winner. My husbands mental health has cycles of about very 4 years he hits rock bottom with suicidal thoughts, he slowly comes back to us eventually.

i have got to the point that i can’t take it anymore, i do everything…. I feel like we are room mates, no affection at all he doesn’t see my pain it’s all about HIM, I have kinda given up on us, we sleep next to each other but hardly talk or touch. Over the last 5 years I have slowly grown to resent him. I am just so angry.. I put so much inton him and my children but know one asks how I am .

Hi @whataboutme and welcome to the forums. Glad you've found this space to reach out and connect, it sounds like you're going through a lot.

I can hear that there's a lot that you're holding together, trying to keep afloat whilst also looking after your family. It can feel so draining when it seems like no one is taking the time to even ask you what support you're needing.

If you haven't already, you could register for SANE's RecoveryClub for some extra support: https://www.sane.org/recovery-club

Relationships Australia is also a good option to explore to talk about your marriage and seek some extra guidance: https://www.relationships.org.au/

You don't deserve to be alone. I hope you keep reaching out and find some connections here in the community :)

Re: I am tied…

It sounds very difficult. I agree with @Jynx talking about it can help. Hopefully you can find your way to a better headspace eventually.

Sometimes the people we partner with are not the ones we need

I've been through many relationships. Just ended one recently.

But yeah society has so many rules about marriage and expectations.

Good on you for staying so long and good on you for your effort for your kids.

You are loved and you are important

Hi what about me you certainly would be overwhelmed definately been sole provider of the family, I agree with jynx relationship Australia would be a place to start on mending the marriage barriers, what about you do you socialise at all, as in catching up with friends for a coffee now and then? Perhaps hubby could reach out and join a group on f/b or other for interaction, remember at the end of the day you are the one you've got to look after(sorry admin if I'm not allowed to mention other social media groups or what have you( please delete if not allowed)

Re: I am tied…

I feel you. I am in a similar position. Been together since we were 17. We have 3 kids and life is busy and tough. My husband suffers from anxiety and depression but isn’t actively seeking help.

life is a struggle and when your partner has mental health issues then it makes day to day seem so much harder.

my concerns at the moment is that as parents if we’re not self regulating and fighting etc were are the role models for our children and what they think is a normal relationship etc. I want a healthy relationship so they can have them growing up.

I feel like we need relationship counselling too but can’t afford it. I think communication is the key but I feel so lonely and unable to communicate with my hubby most of the time.

so I don’t have any advice just reaching out to let you know I see and feel you.

i feel like I need to work on some inner child trauma stuff. Definitely reach out for help for yourself and help with your relationship. Life shouldn’t feel this tough and lonely.
