Managing relationships

Am I lovable

Am I lovable

Im 20yrs old, I’ve had a few relationships, some good and some bad, I’m currently seeing this other guy and I want a life with him, but in this economy is it even possible to have a life with someone you love with all your heart. Money is tight and I’ve got a job that pays next to nothing. Creating a life you both love but then what if it goes wrong, then what?, I’ve got to start all over?

Hi @lotto

First welcome to the forums. Thank you for sharing.

It makes sense when you care deeply about someone, you start thinking about the future. Trying to balance hope for a life together with the realities of money, work and this uncertainty can bring up a lot of questions and mixed feelings.

It's understandable to want stability and security while also wondering what the future might hold. I'm sure other member will also relate to some of what you have shared. Thank you again for sharing this with us. I hope you find connection and support within the community, there is space for you here.

Hi @lotto

I'm 38 so I've got 18 years more experience.

Unfortunately guys can come and go. There are trade offs especially if you are living paycheck to paycheck.

If you like his company that's good.

If you want to build a long lasting relationship...my advice is

Don't necessarily move in with each other. Sometimes sharing in a house with other people is better than tying yourself down to just one person you don't know well.

Some people 'use' each other, share a place and then move on, when their feelings drift apart.

If you don't mind, then that's the experience of life.

I would suggest going to church if you have an option and maybe find someone like minded there.

Otherwise the world is a very big place and to find someone who stays in the long run, try and stay grounded with a trusted family member or mentor.

Remember, you don't have to settle for someone who doesn't know what they want. Mentors and family can be helpful to focus more on what you can develop emotionally or psychologically.
