Help!

Help!

Hi everyone,

So, the last month has been quite the rollercoaster.

After doing an ADHD assessment, I was told I most likely have bipolar. (Not the first time I have heard this.)

They started me on [medication name removed by moderators], but I was getting really itchy on it and having some bad side effects, so I stopped taking it and waited for another appointment with a free community health centre psychiatrist.

She literally said, "Oh, after five minutes I can tell you have ADHD." Great, thanks. What can you do? Nothing. Anyway, they gave me something else, which I have not started yet because of what has happened over the last week.

I was lying in bed and woke up with a fright, my heart racing like I was having a bad dream or something. I picked up my phone to scroll, then started having these vivid flashbacks or visions that were not even mine. I started feeling really sick and dizzy, wanted to vomit, and broke out in sweats. It was really, really scary. To have a vision, a dream, or a false memory was terrifying, especially because of the way I physically reacted to it. After a while, I worked out they were not really memories, but I was—and still am—so confused about where they came from.

I put it down to having a cold at the time, but yesterday it happened again in woolies, I was picking out bread, and then again, a flashback/memory/vision. What ever the F it is happened, the bread started moving back and forth, i had a massive wave of sickness, I was dizzy. And then kept seeing this thing in my head that I was trying to work out what it was.... Wether it's real, or a dream? Has anyone ever experianced anything like this?

It's not anxeity, yes I have that really bad. this is next level. I rang the doctors and put me on the drug I hate most [medication name removed by moderators]. But just had a low dose to sleep and calm.

Re: Help!

Hi @Shift83 Guidelines mean we can't name specific meds. Which you have done more than once @moderator

Re: Help!

Not really helpful feed back, but thanks for your input.

Re: Help!

@Shift83 I've experienced similar while having a bipolar relapse. In retrospect a bit like recollections of a vivid and disturbing dream. An antipsychotic helps, and I titrate the dose back down after recovering. I'd advise caution as it's said antidepressants and ADHD meds can exacerbate this and other symptoms of mania.

There are other Bipolar 1 forumites around, perhaps they might chip in.

Re: Help!

@Shift83 hi hun the answer to your question is yes i have experienced some intense visions on and off medications. my diagnosis is schizoaffective disorder which is like schizophrenia with a mood disorder attached. i was first diagnosed with psychosis then bipolar now my current diagnosis which is a good fit. try not to panic when these breakthrough visions occur just write down the details and contact your psychiatrist. yes the meds can be horrendous but necessary to stablize the problems. i was on 2 meds and now only on one tbh i would prefer to be on none of course. however i dont want to go completely crazy again.

i am here if you need to talk. love Bunniekins

Re: Help!

Thanks Bunniekins.

its actually a really terrifying experience. I was actually diagnosed with the same thing as you when I was younger but then nothing ever came about it and I seemed to be okay.

I really don’t want this to happen again and I feel like I have tried so hard over the years to do everything to stay mentally healthy, including being sober for 16 months.

I don’t know what to do. Sounds silly I know. I just don’t want to be “special” and have any type of diagnosis.

Re: Help!

@Shift83 congrats on being sober for 16 months :) yes i agree with giving up the booze best thing i ever did for my mind and body health. do you get enough quality sleep? i find that really helps. i know it can be hard to come by and takes time and patience. also it can take years to "recover" from a mental illness not that we will ever be "normal" lol! but define normal....

Re: Help!

🤣 that’s right what’s “normal”.

I definitely get a good sleep. Well when I can sleep without nightmares. I’m hoping this will pass. Thanks for the suggestions and a relief I’m not alone 🙏
