Managing thoughts of suicide & self-harm

Groundhog day

Groundhog day

Im a parent to two teens, and I live with estranged partner. Im not planning anything with regards to ending my life but the thought is coming up a lot.

The estranged partner is not contributing they are basicly my dependant as we share a mortgage. They used to pay the mortgage and contribute to bills, but have never really done any chores or cared for our children. Their parents have both passed in the last 5 years and they stopped working. I had given them some leeway but it has gone way too far for me. I am soo angry and sad. I am embarrassed to say our communication is so poor they always respond like I am their mother to any request so that I am either silent or lashing out.

Im also struggling financially, my pay basicly comes in and out in 1 day. My confidence and mood is so low I just cant get myself to source more work. Last time I had extra weekend work I got injured and I still haven't quite resolved the debts.

This is overwhelming stress constantly. On the outside I think I appear to be functioning. But Im just very sad and lonely. I was seeing a psych who moved on from the practise, but right now finances are so tight I cant afford chocolate let alone an appointment.

I just wanted to vent. I also want to know how I can get them to leave? I've asked.

Hi @large,

Welcome to the forums and thank you for reaching out and sharing what’s been going on.

It sounds like you’ve been carrying an enormous amount of responsibility for a long time. Reading your post, I can hear how exhausted, angry, sad, and lonely this has left you feeling.

I’m glad you let us know that while thoughts about ending your life have been coming up, you’re not planning to act on them. Even so, it sounds like things have been feeling really overwhelming. Are you feeling safe at the moment?

It makes sense that your confidence and mood have taken a hit when you’ve been under this much pressure for so long. Sometimes people can look like they’re functioning on the outside while carrying a huge amount of distress internally.

In terms of your partner leaving, that can be a complex situation, particularly when there are shared finances, property, and children involved. It may be worth speaking with a community legal service or Legal Aid to better understand your options and what support may be available.

You may also find some of these supports helpful:

I’m really glad you found your way here and felt able to vent. You don’t have to carry all of this on your own
