BD2 AuDHD (Bipolar2 + Autism + ADHD)

BD2 AuDHD (Bipolar2 + Autism + ADHD)

I am looking for like minded (lol) people that are late diagnosed BD2 and ADHD and ASD.

We're a different breed, our struggles and stories are different, we get along with all three groups but fit in with none. Our understandings, challenges and needs are many and medication affects and nee challenges are varied and unparalleled.

If this hits home and you want people who might be dealing with the same or complex issues, please comment. Because the "loneliness" and lack of understanding is real for me.

Tanks 🙂

Re: BD2 AuDHD (Bipolar2 + Autism + ADHD)

Hey @FreekyPeep

I wanted to thank you so much for reaching out and sharing this with everyone. I can really hear how much this is weighing down on you, especially with that specific loneliness that comes from being a part of several groups but never feeling like you truly fit into the standard boxes of any of them 💚

I will say that the intersectionality between Bipolar 2 and AuDHD (Autism and ADHD) is quite complex, and I think you're absolutely right in saying that the way medications, sensory needs, and mood cycles interact is a very different experience than just simply navigating just one of those on its own. Being late diagnosed also adds another layer of reflecting on your history through an entirely new lens, which in my own experience as a late diagnosed AuDHDer, is a relief yet so overwhelming.

Please know that you've come to the right place to find people who truly do get it. While I don't have Bipolar, I do have PMDD on top of my Autism and ADHD, which can be really debilitating for me. While I acknowledge everyone's journey is unique, the feeling of being a "different breed" is something that many of us here can relate to.

I did want to ask, and it's okay if you don't want to answer it, but what has been the biggest challenge for you lately in balancing these different aspects of yourself?

Sending you lots of strength and peace 💚

Re: BD2 AuDHD (Bipolar2 + Autism + ADHD)

Hi @FreekyPeep ,

I hear you. I hear the isolation and loneliness that can come with neuro diversity.

Recently, working closer with people, I can see my autistic and ADHD traits come out more and more.

But then again, I feel pretty okay with it - now.

I used to feel very isolated, 'wrong' and 'abnormal'. But now, I've learnt to celebrate neurodiversity. It's my identity and ME.

Reflecting on this, what makes it 'wrong', are the expectations society places on us.

I wonder if the world moves towards an inclusive society, will ND folk feel less alone?

I hope you find a way to be you. To be accepted for who you are and the strengths you bring to society.

Re: BD2 AuDHD (Bipolar2 + Autism + ADHD)

I intersect all those diagnoses at some point am BPD2 with AHDH, and I care for a child with AuADHD...

I agree with the thinking that we can all, "smell our own" because they are our brand of crazy...but I wouldn't say that I want to find others with my exact diagnoses...

Neurodivergance is wonderful, but also chaotic.

Nuerotypicals tend to provide stability and a way different viewpoint to my own.

I enjoy their perspective but I also like neurodivergant thinking, its wicked, zany and cool and super interesting...

If that all makes sense.

Yes @Anonymouse1000 ! Totally makes sense. I can relate. I guess it's about finding the balance. Be yourself, but also have boundaries to help you function 🙂

@FreekyPeep , how are you going?

Re: BD2 AuDHD (Bipolar2 + Autism + ADHD)

Hi everyone

I too am late diagnosed bipolar, ASD and ADHD.. recently had a severe episode of psychosis which lasted around 2 months and ended in a hospitalisation detained. Completely wrecked my life. No one in my family (including my adult children) or my friends are talking to me after the things that I said during this period. They have all written and want nothing to do with me off so completely alone in this journey. I am in my 50's and really struggle day to day. Is anyone else in this position? I cant believe I am at this stage of life and dealing with this now... I feel cursed.

Dear @Torched ,

Welcome to the forums. Thank you for sharing your experiences. It sounds like such a difficult time in that you have been estranged from family due to a situation out of your control. I hear you and recognise how confusing this might be.

Please know you are not alone. I'll tag a few members in as they may be able to share some insights @Lapis_Anteater @Radder @Captain24 @Misty7

Re: BD2 AuDHD (Bipolar2 + Autism + ADHD)

Hi @Torched it is so hard when people don't understand that it's an illness experienced at times, not you as a person.

Perhaps point them at https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/conditions/mental-health-conditions/mental-illness-stigma

For you, perhaps read https://www.lifeline.org.au/get-help/support-toolkit/techniques-and-guides/self-esteem-and-mental-health

Do you hear voices or other sounds/sensations during psychosis? If so, see https://www.unitingvictas.org.au/services/mental-health/hearing-voices-support/

Re: BD2 AuDHD (Bipolar2 + Autism + ADHD)

@Radder I cant, they wont even speak with me. I doubt they would read anything.. there have been many issues for years...It will only be if they decide to try and have any understanding..im effectively cut off..that point was made very clear... nothing I can do to change that... I did hear voices - that was one of the issues and I listened to them..thought everyone I knew was a doppleganger and the real people had either been kidnapped...also thought someone was trying to hurt me too...obviously all delusion..now I am trying to pick up the pieces..very hard..
