(PTSD) I don't think there's any coming back from this
Writing this here because I have no idea where else to take it.
3 years ago there was an incident at my old job. I had just finished my shift and I'm about to get on the bus when the driver tells me a passenger is having heart problems. Since I'm outside she sends me to get a defibrillator from inside the building. I run to go get it and as soon as I do, alarms go off. Staff and customer alike surrounds me to stop me. No one would listen to my story, so I'm being restrained by the public while someone is possibly dying on my watch. It's only when I'm pacified and the situation is defused that I'm told by security that defibrillators aren't allowed to leave the building.
I feel no guilt or shame. I was the only person that did the right thing.
The ONLY person.
Ever since that I've felt as if all of humanity is my enemy. It's like I can see right through everyone around me. It's like none of them are even real. Just being near people makes me sick.
I've made no progress with my psychologist since we started talking about this incident, which is frustrating because of how quickly he was able to deal with my issues stemming from abusive parents. He's admitted several times that the circumstances are incredibly strange. We've been doing CBT for months with little in the way of results. Even others who have experienced traumas in the past have written me off as crazy, like I'm too far gone even for them to offer advice. I'm doing my best not to be a difficult patient, both professionally and metaphorically, but I can't hide my true feelings.
Again, I feel no guilt. I was the only one who did the right thing. I feel as if I'm the last sane person on Earth and I worry I will never find peace.
