It's Not My Area

It's Not My Area

Why, when I ask the professionals, do I keep hearing it's not their area? So who's area are the following issues: family counselling and being the child of someone with dementia? Thoughts?

Family Therapy is a sub-specialty. If you are looking for psychologists, then various "Find a psychologist" tools have check lists you can select your desired specialisation for

You could include geriatric psych in that search

Re: It's Not My Area

Hey @ButterflyWings ,

I hear the frustration that comes with this. I wonder if it's because it is such a specialised area so it is out of scope to work with such issues?

I've heard that Dementia Australia can be helpful: https://www.dementia.org.au/

All the best. I look forward to hearing how you go.

@Snowie may be able to provide some valuable insight too through their lived experiences.

Hi @ButterflyWings

My mother has got dementia.

I highly suggest that you contact Dementia Australia. They can give you one on one counselling and also give you lots of resources. They have been a huge help to me and my family
