Does anyone know where I can find a Peer Support Worker?

Does anyone know where I can find a Peer Support Worker?

I have Bipolar 1 and ADHD and struggle with depression and motivation. I see a Psychiatrist but feel there is a gap in the care that is available to those of us struggling with mental health in our every day living.

Has anyone had any success finding support other then expensive Psychiatrists and Psychologists?

Hey @Pickle33

Welcome to the forums! Great to have you here.

This is a peer space where you can interact with others who may be going through similar mental health challenges, may be at a different point in their journey or may be carers of those with complex mental health.

I found peer support to be so health when I had my own mental health challenges.

Roses in the Ocean has a peer support line if you are interested in booking at time.

@Pickle33 there are online platforms like Mable and Careseekers that link you to support workers but if you don't have NDIS or MyAgedCare funding it's expensive. Because they charge a minimum of 2 hours each session is as much as a counsellor or a psychologist's gap fee.

You also need to do due diligence to find someone suitable and qualified.

Hey @Pickle33 ,

How are you travelling? How have things been going for you?

Hey @tyme, thanks for checking in. Appreciated you and another person gave helpful resources to peer workers which I’m looking into. I’m travelling ok, it’s kinda isolating not working due to mental health. This is a good support network Thanks for reaching out.

Hey @Pickle33 ,

Great to connect with you.

I know first hand how hard it can be. It's not your fault. For me, work gives me accountability, stability and a reason to push on even when things are hard. So I can totally imagine how hard it is, not to be able to work.

Is there an option to go back on light duties, shorter hours or have other reasonable adjustments in place? Of course I don't know your situation, so I'm only asking.

Also, when the referrals to SANE's RecoveryClub open, you can chose to speak to a peer psychosocial recovery facilitator - in other words - a peer worker. Unfortunately, I don't have an exact date when this will be though.
