Need help on getting over an ex

Need help on getting over an ex

I haven’t been able to sleep properly in a month. When I shut my eyes my mind races. I constantly have a sinking feeling in my gut. Going no contact so far has not helped at all. I’m still grieving the relationship. I just need strategies to help distract myself. Everything in my house reminds me of her as we lived together for 4 years.

Hi @tamarind813 and welcome

I'm sorry to hear about your break-up. Heartbreak is a very hard thing to go through and it can be important to allow yourself the time to grieve. While you're going through this it can be helpful to try to be around loved ones, even if you don't feel like it, being around others who know what you're going through can help. It can serve as a distraction or be a time to talk through how you're feeling and process what's happening.

Getting out of the house can also be a good distraction, I'm hearing how much reminds you of her in the house so maybe giving yourself time away from these reminders when you're able would be helpful.

Trying to engage in interests or hobbies can be good too. Again, you might not feel like it, but giving it a go might offer some positive distraction.

Grieving a relationship takes time, I hope some of these suggestions help but sometimes the only way out is through. Take care of yourself and know you're not alone

Re: Need help on getting over an ex

Hi Tamarind, thanks for posting.
I too myself am going through a similar lived experience.
I recently broke up with my partner less than 4 months ago and I struggled to initially process the breakup. Not to say, I don't get sad every so often, but it gets easier and easier to move on each day. A self-journey of rediscovery if you will.

I often frequented his place and would bring over all my things, and at times buy new things for the house in planning for our future. To move on, I donated all the things that we shared, and only kept one sentimental item.

I would recommend changing the living space as much as you can - buy other items, things that give meaning to the space and make you happy.

In order to also move on, I am also re-investing my time, love and energy into my friends and learning from the relationship through self-reflection, re-connecting with my own values and how I can be a better person first for myself and then for my next relationship.

It's been a difficult journey, but I am definitely in a better head space than I was 4 months ago.

Hope that helps.

Stay strong with the no contact!

Re: Need help on getting over an ex

To add on to my post, she contacted my phone today asking why I had blocked her on everything. I had said that I saw her change her pfp on IG which shows her with the new guy she’s seeing and it made me have a horrible reaction and I blocked her everywhere. To add again, she had met this guy online about 3 months before we broke up, and started properly seeing him within the week after we broke up, while she was still living with me. She’s moved on so quick and she’s told me she feels free and she hasn’t felt this happy in a long time. While I’m home grieving by myself. It hasn’t gotten my easier after a month and I cannot bare to see her this happy after such a serious relationship.
