Friend fed into a psychotic delusion and now I can't unravel it

Friend fed into a psychotic delusion and now I can't unravel it

This is gonna sound weird as and I apologise in advance. I have bipolar 1 with psychotic features. And one of my common delusions is that I'm psychically linked to a long dead celebrity. This celebrity is someone I'm obsessed with regardless of emotional state but when I'm manic it unfortunately means I get really weird about him.

My online friend unfortunately introduced me to the concept of spiritspousing which is where you're married to a dead spirit (or at least dating them) and I started to believe that and that I met him in a past life, but now I realise I might be having an episode (there are other signs like hypersexuality, overspending, lack of sleep and strange dreams).

But I've now ensconced myself in an online community dedicated to it who truly believe I'm dating the ghost of a long dead celebrity. And I don't actually know what to do to get out of the rut I put myself in at my most delusional.

What do I do now?

Firstly, you're not alone.

I too have delusions revolving around a celebrity. I believe I was r*ped by him and that we have a son together. I also believe myself to be married to someone else. These are all delusions that revolve around love and relationships. So, I can't help you besides wondering if the dead person you believe you are married to is Bing Crosby or not.

Because if I could choose a dead celebrity to be married to, I would definitely choose Bing Crosby.

Nah it's not Bing Crosby! Someone a little closer to home, more Aussie haha! But the you for your support. Thinking of seeing if I can book an appt with my therapist for next week. I really need to see my psychiatrist too because these meds aren't working but I can't get in to see him until February unforch :((((((

Hi @foolking34 ,

I can't say I know much about this.

@Dimity @RiverSeal - I'm interested to hear your take on things.

@foolking34 hi! Hi too to you @tyme @FearofUnknown

I'm bipolar too and have been delusional about being pregnant, once (my first florid episode) seemed related to the second coming rather a celebrity. Dunno what the other time was about. But I've been delusional about relationships with real people in my life too.

It's an interesting time when you can catch yourself being a bit paranoid or delusional while there's still time to do something about it. Sounds like you're wise to be careful about getting into the rabbithole of that online group.

As a matter of fact I'm expecting problems this coming week when I'll be under a lot of duress, and was so anxious about it I reached out to my psychiatrist who says I can boost my meds for a few days. I really appreciate him for trusting me enough to titrate down to a lower more comfortable maintenance dose when I'm going OK and just deal with problems as they arise. Until about a year ago I'd stayed out of hospital for more than 20 years so it seems to be working.
