When neighbours complain

When neighbours complain

Now neighbours are complaining. They know my mums situation is temporary, but they have my number (due to when my grandmother, my mums mum, lived at her home before dementia). They are harassing me. One neighbour gave out my number tonight to another neighbour I don't know, demanding what's going on, what the mental health plan is, she can't live on her own, she's a lonely, old sick woman etc. Here is their actual text from tonight -

"Hi
Your mother is back at the rambled mumbling again.
We are planning on going to bed soon and could do without her inner monologue keeping us up.
Please call her and tell her to stop it.
I would also love a time scale on how long we have to put up with this sick, old, loud woman next door?
What is the plan for her moving on please?!"

Basically, they are insinuating how dare I put my mum there that is obviously interrupting their suburban vanilla life. She wouldn't hurt a fly, but she does say and do silly stuff which can be daunting and terrifying to those who have not experienced schizophrenia in an individual before. Until my mums house can be rebuilt (burned down accidentally last October and insurance takes time) my hands are currently tied. One can't pick and choose ones neighbours, but they obviously felt they had an in-road with me and that they could do this. I feel so responsible, yet can't be responsible for my mums life or actions. The reality is, she is not doing anything unlawful and she can still live independently quite well albeit her antics and ranting at times. I have now blocked the neighbours contacts. They have been told to call the authorities if they need to, not me. Feedback welcomed - I feel so lost at times.

Re: When neighbours complain

@Jan6

the message that you neighbour sent was rude and inappropriate. I'm glad you blocked them. I don't think it would do any good to try and keep communicating with them if they lack basic compassion.

No-one can choose who their neighbours are - it's the luck of the draw.

I'm glad your Mum is basically okay and can live independently. It must be hard for her experiencing the symptoms that she does.

Thankyou so much for your support and kind words. That's exactly how I feel and how my own family views the neighbours
