Board games and connection - what's your go-to?

Board games and connection - what's your go-to?

One of my favourite things about this time of year? Board games with family & friends..

For me, connection is one of my core values, and board games create this space where we're all present, laughing, strategising, giving each other shit in the best way possible. No phones. No distractions. Just people actually being with each other.

There's something about sitting around a table, whether it's something competitive or cooperative, that creates the kind of connection I crave. The banter. The teamwork (or betrayal, depending on the game). The shared experience of just... being together.

So I'm curious...

• Do you play board games? What's your go-to?
• Are you the competitive type or do you prefer cooperative games?
• Do you have any holiday traditions around games, or ways you create connection?

Keen to hear from everyone.... @rav3n @

Hey @ccau_82

I love playing cards with my son and his fiancé. We often play a card game which is quite fun. I also discovered a card game called Muffin Time which is super fun. I don’t see the kids all that often anymore and hubby doesn’t play games so I am looking forward to Christmas Day, when both my boys and their fiancé’s will be here. Daughter is overseas this year living her best life! My friends are coming from South Australia in January and they love playing games so I will have almost two weeks straight of games.

i'm so glad this thread exists!! @ccau_82 i was just telling my friend last week how i wanted to find some new board games.

@Oaktree i've never heard of muffin time! how does the game go?

Cluedo used to be the 'go-to' game whenever my cousins came over... but once we ran out of game sheet, we stopped playing it. recently, i've loved playing incohearent and tapple!

i do like being competitive but also, it depends on who i'm playing with - if they don't reciprocate that competitive energy, then i might tone it down haha. keen to hear your go-to games @ccau_82 😊

@ccau_82 perhaps controversial, but we enjoy Monopoly! Not the most relaxing, but it's a long-time favourite in our fam.

We are also big Uno players!

Love board games but my teen sons don't. I actually asked that they play games with me as a gift for Christmas 🤣.

  • Presidents and arseholes is a hilarious card game
  • 5 letter wordlet is good
  • Grass (used to play on night watch when things were quiet and bosses not around)
  • Settlers of Catan is ok
  • Pandemic ok
  • Risk
  • scrabble
  • Rummicub
  • I've also played Muffin Time which from memory was fun

I've got other games which we haven't played yet. They're definitely a great way to have laughs and bring people together.
