Coping with my adult daughter's mental illess
Hi everyone, I'm new to SANE. I have a daughter 28 years old. She has struggled with mental health issues for about 5-6 years. Until December 2024, she had been doing pretty well, achieving lots that would have seemed impossible the year before. But she has had a relapse and the grief and sadness surrounding that, for all of us, but particularly for her, is at times overwhelming and it often feels hopeless.
She has had several Psych ward admissions, one recently for 10 weeks. She now feels she needs to be readmitted but they have no capacity. She has been diagnosed with OCD and ADHD (which explains a lot) and this has resulted in her at times feeling extremely depressed and anxious, often unable to leave her house.
The hardest part for her is that she has and always has had very adverse reactions to medications - she has tried them all and they have only made her feel worse, so currently she is completely unmedicated except for short acting sedatives when needed.
It is hard to start the day with much hope - if she's not good, I'm not good! What's that expression 'you're only as happy as your unhappiest child!'
Anyway, that's my story, thanks for listening.
