Something’s not right

Hypochondriac

Hypochondriac

Hey all,

Just trying to stop myself from googling and chatGPTing a bloody rash on my leg.

Trying not to freak out and make a mountain out of a mole hill.

So how we all doing? How's your Monday been?

What's your favourite flowers?

Hi @Stuart9726

Hypochondiasis was relabelled a couple of editions of the DSM ago

Health Anxiety, sometimes called Health OCD is a serious and debilitating mental illness. Generally treated with antidepressants, sometimes antipsychotis, and exposure therapy like ERP

hey @Stuart9726!

i hear how hard it is not to worry. take a few deep breaths. i hope connecting here helps take your mind off it for a bit.

ooo there's too many pretty flowers! i'd say sunflowers have been one of my favs because of how the young sunflowers follow/face the sun. i also love pink lilies! how about you?

@DogMan79

I know exactly how debilitating it is, as I have suffered with it for many many years. I'm also on medication for it. I was originally diagnosed when my Army psychologist called it Hypochondria, 25 years ago. So in moments of stress and utter panic, I still refer to it as Hypochondriac. I came here to try and distract myself from the temptations, I did not find your reply helpful, I was looking for a distraction, not information. Thank you.

@rav3n

Thanks Rav3n,

Sorry I didn't reply yesterday, I ended up going down the rabbit hole in the end and freaking myself out.

My favourite flowers are definitely Roses. I'm currently in the process of making my own cultivar, in honour of my late wee niece. I've been wanting to do it for over 15 years, and I know feel like I have the knowledge to attempt it.

I've got my mother rose and I'm on the lookout for my father rose now. I'm wanting a really nice baby pink, that is also really fragrant and capable of surviving in tropical conditions.

@Stuart9726 no worries at all!

roses are timeless beauties! my parents used to grow red, yellow, white and pink roses. they even had pink and white candy stripe roses which was such a unique one!

what does the cultivar process look like? does it take long? sounds like a beautiful way to honour your niece 💗

@rav3n

I’ve always loved the look of the Fire and Ice rose – don’t have one yet, but it’s definitely on my list. 🌹 The deep red petals with the white centre are just stunning. A candy-striped one like you mentioned would be amazing too!

I’m planning to cultivate a few variations of my own. I’ll be starting the first cross-pollination around March next year, when the roses are in full bloom here. From there it’s all about growing the seeds, seeing which traits show up, and being patient – probably 4–5 years before the rose I’m really aiming for is fully there. I’ll start with fragrance, then work toward a soft baby pink. A slow journey, but one I’m really excited about. 💖

i didn't realise it would take 4-5 years!! i applaud you for your patience, i definitely would be terrible at this haha. i'm really excited to see how this turns out, pls keep me updated on your journey!!

do you have grow other flowers too?

Re: Hypochondriac

Haha, @rav3n this is going to be a real test of my patience! Normally I pick up a hobby, get good at it, then move on to the next thing. With the roses though, I’ve got to push myself to stick with it for the long haul.

And yes, I do grow other flowers too. I’ve got a couple of veggie patches going at the moment with strawberries, peas, lettuce, cucumber, sweetcorn and even watermelon. Me and my son are also having a sunflower competition, whoever grows the tallest by the end of next school term gets treated like a king for the day. 🌻👑

My biggest passion though is fine turf work. I used to take care of 27 football (soccer) fields, which was amazing but eventually burnt me out. These days I’ve switched across to working at a school,actually my son’s school, and it comes with its own unique challenges. Right now I’m spending the week building a Yarning Circle for the kids, which has been a really rewarding project.

Do you do any gardening yourself, or grow veggies and flowers too?
