Dissociative identity disorder

Dissociative identity disorder

After weeks of research and struggling I'm incredibly anxious my symptoms are matching what I know of dissociative identity disorder and I'm unsure what to do. I do worry this could also be something else, I've had delusional episodes and hallucinations in the past, either way I'm becoming paranoid from my own brain and I don't have the funds to pay for most professional help.

Re: Dissociative identity disorder

Hey there! I can imagine this is a scary feeling not knowing what is going on. Would definitely recommend starting by speaking to your GP about what you may be experiencing and see if they can help. There are lots of free services available they could help you explore from my experience. You’re not alone navigating your feelings though, we are all struggling with something we don’t always completely understand. ❤️

Re: Dissociative identity disorder

@Overwatcher Hi struggler,

Yes it can be hard when we realise all is not well, i have struggled with dissociating myself from myself, caused by traumatic experiences in my past. This had me develop different alters. Not sure if you suffer from this as well, or if you simply are mentally dissociated from the world around you and living a kind of mental fog as your reality.

However i found that healing does not just depend on professional help, though such can be most useful, there is a lot more material around nowadays to give sufferers insight, support and comfort.

i hope you will find the help and support you need to take charge of your life living like this.

Re: Dissociative identity disorder

Which of the symptoms do you identify with the most? You could be misdiagnosing yourself so you should'nt dwell too much into all that DID stuff. Sucks that it costs to be diagnosed but you better not take the risk of misdiagnosis.

My GP misdiagnosed me!

Re: Dissociative identity disorder

Hey @Overwatcher - I bounced around the mental health system for years and was diagnosed a few years ago with DID- which to be honest hasn’t made it easier just a lot to take in. I’m not sure what you local community mental health team are like but I had some success there and also in finding an empathetic GP, who maybe doesn’t understand DID but gets trauma and that it’s a manifestation of those experiences. I’ve found trying to connect in with professionals with an interest in complex trauma has been helpful. The other thing, in searching for digestible information - the system speak podcast has some good episodes.
