NDIS Music and Art Therapy

NDIS Music and Art Therapy

Hey Forumites,

If you are like me and have been hanging out for the result of the NDIS Music and Art Therapy review to find a result. Well it is here and is really positve for those that use the supports.

The review found:

Art and music therapies will continue to be available to people with disability under the National Disability Insurance Scheme where there is evidence it will provide beneficial outcomes.

The Independent Review of Art and Music Therapies led by leading health economist Dr Stephen Duckett AM confirmed that they could be effective and beneficial in the right circumstances.

The Duckett Review made 19 recommendations relating to art and music supports for NDIS participants, of which 15 are directed to the National Disability Insurance Agency. The NDIA supports all the recommendations directed to it.

Phew 😮‍💨 now I can continue to attend my Music Therapy sessions every Saturday!

Take care

Re: NDIS Music and Art Therapy

Does it require a clinical model to be funded, or can other modes of delivery and community participation be supported under the scheme.

Hey @Appleblossom, the NDIS funds various supports, including community-based and participation-focused services, as long as they meet the "reasonable and necessary" criteria and relate to a participant's disability goals. Funding is available for modes of delivery and community participation that build skills, promote social and economic participation, and foster independence, aligning with the participant's personal goals. Does that answer your question? RiverSeal

Like @Appleblossom I'm a little dubious on the wording

I'm sure many providers will effectively rort the system. Based on what is in the link, providers will widely lie to sneak it into plans where it technically doesn't belong

Re: NDIS Music and Art Therapy

To be honest that looks like it is designed to suit lobbyists from the professional associations, more than the benefit of the vulnerable person. It doesn’t seem to recognise the breadth and depth of the therapeutic experiences that musical and artistic activities enable.

I am all for the therapists getting an agreed reasonable rate, but THERAPY is inherent within the human experience and not merely a function of the job description of a provider.

I have a current request under review that is ‘reasonable and necessary’. I have letters of support. I learned the fundamental importance of that concept as a child. I agree it is fair that “reasonable and necessary “ is crucial underpinning to eligibility in the NDIS.
