Today is World Suicide Prevention Day 2025

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day 2025

September is World Suicide Prevention Month
10th September is World Suicide Prevention Day 2025

Theme: Changing the Narrative on Suicide
‘It’s a call to shift from silence and stigma to openness, empathy and action, to ensure those who are struggling feel heard, supported, and connected. Together, we can help create a future where more lives are saved and more stories are shared.’ – Suicide Prevention Australia

This month can be deeply personal for many of us. If you carry lived or living experience, we honour your strength, your pain, and your resilience. You are not alone.

Let’s change the story together—by breaking down shame, creating safe spaces to yarn, and walking alongside one another with compassion and care.

Re: Today is World Suicide Prevention Day 2025

I was doing really well this morning but I’m fading rapidly. @SouthsNo1

I do have experience and today is a reminder of the really dark times when they were so hard that I didn’t want to and couldn’t continue.

Today is a hard day with both ‘days’ it feels like a slightly triggering day.

Re: Today is World Suicide Prevention Day 2025

I feel I am quite alone as I feel too afraid to talk to any professionals about it because I might get locked up (like what happened to me a few weeks ago). Today has been a rough day and though I am ok right now I'm not sure what to do. Does anyone have any tips on how to get through this stuff alone?

Re: Today is World Suicide Prevention Day 2025

hey @Captain24 @Jlol, i can see that today's been tough for you both, and i really appreciate you for sharing here.

@Jlol i feel that my instincts are always to encourage people to be open with their psych's but i can see that your last experience has made that difficult at the moment, sorry to hear that. some ways that help me feel less alone are through things like music, watching tv shows/movies, reading, etc - i like finding characters or lyrics that resonate with my emotions/thoughts, it's comforting know that even a fictional character sorta understands me.

joining social spaces whether its online or real life has helped in being able to focus on something outside of my own thoughts/feelings for a bit. i've joined online games, online spaces like reddit and face to face spaces like volunteering groups, cultural clubs, charity events, etc.

i also like doing hand-on activities like legos, @Captain24's working on some now too. i had a friend that made fidget toys and donated it to local schools for neurodivergent kids. i've made bracelets and handed them out to people at festivals, etc. i know it might sound silly, but i think finding a project or something to work on helped me stay occupied when i was alone... it can be big or small. would you be open to maybe working on something creative/hands-on or joining social groups?

Re: Today is World Suicide Prevention Day 2025

Thanks @rav3n

That is good advice. I would be open to that. The thing that gets in the way though is work and the exhaustion it takes. For example, it's 6:30 right now and I've only just come home from work. I'm completely exhausted and just don't have the energy to do those things very well. My work/life balance is out of whack and I'm finding it very hard to correct it or get any significant time to invest in looking after myself.

That being said, I am trying to join social groups online where possible.

Thanks for sharing, your feelings are similar about how I feel about days like today. I hope it got better for you. I feel better when I remember how strong I can be and have been. I am sure you have alot of strengths you can reflect on?

I am going to call and have a yarn with my kids and brothers and see how they are going?

Re: Today is World Suicide Prevention Day 2025

I’m actually struggling a lot tonight @SouthsNo1. I’ve been doing so well but just heading further down.

I don’t really have a lot of strengths.

I hope your yarn goes well
